New Zealand plus size fashion blogger Meagan Kerr wears Nettle Tee from Ruby & Rain, Ouija Girl skater skirt from Joolz Fashion, Raspberry Pie Snag Tights, ABBY Mary-Janes from Ziera and ASOS Design Pork Pie Hat

My usual approach is to create a costume that combines things I already have with new pieces, because ya gal is on a budget! My easy go to costumes are witch (all in black, accessorise as much or as little as you want), homicidal maniac (they look like everybody else) and cat (wear black, add a headband with ears). Sometimes I also go for a spooky inspired look – I have a few pieces in my wardrobe that fit the bill (like the ouija board skirt I’m wearing above).

I’ve also hired costumes (or pieces for certain looks) from local costume hire shops – depending on where you are located, plus size options might vary. If anyone has a costume hire near them with a great range of plus size options (especially in larger plus sizes), please leave a comment below letting us know who they are and where you’re located! In Auckland, I can recommend First Scene.

Do you keep it subtle or go all out for Halloween?

Blatant self promotion thread here, but when I first put out the KRIS dress in peridot (green) I also ordered a pink bunny hat to go with it, so I could dress up as Louise from Bob’s Burgers. I gave away that hat to the woman who bought the last of those dresses in my size, but now I have the KRIS in emerald, or the DEMELZA in forest green, I could totally return to that idea.

I’m not super familiar with Bob’s Burgers so had to look that up but YES! Great costume idea!
