When I worked in an office, stockings were an absolute essential to help me keep warm in winter. I still get a lot of people asking me where to buy plus size stockings, so I like to keep up to date with what’s out there. When The Tight Spot reached out and offered me a couple of pairs to review, I jumped at the chance, because they have some great brands of hosiery (both plus and straight size) that I’ve been wanting to try.

Pamela Mann 90 Denier Maxi Opaque Plus Size Tights, £11.95

The first pair I picked out were by Pamela Mann, a brand I’ve heard great things about. I ordered these in a 3X, based on the measurements on the size chart, and I picked them particularly because the description said they have a deeper body rise and wider thigh fit. I prefer opaque stockings, so I went for 90 Denier ones, and I chose the burgundy because I thought a bit of colour might be a fun addition to an all black outfit.

They feel really nice on (a little silky, which is quite luxurious). I was a little concerned when I started putting these on that they might be a little too tight in the thighs but they turned out to be perfect. I have big hips/bum/stomach and a smaller waist, and I often find that stockings slip down but these were absolutely perfect. I’ve talked to people at length about how they layer things with their stockings to stop them slipping down (underwear + tights + anti-chafing shorts is usually go to), but I’m happy to report that for the first time in a really long time, I didn’t have to layer anything on top of these tights – they just fit properly.

I would definitely buy lots of pairs of these if I wore stockings on a regular basis, possibly in other colours so I could have a selection (they come in burgundy, black and navy).

Lida Seamless Plus Size Leggings, £16.95

I’ve always been quite intrigued by footless tights, and was never really sure what to wear them with or how to style them. I know some people like to wear them with strappy heels but that’s definitely not me, so I thought I’d get these ones as a bit of a styling challenge for myself. I ordered these in a size 3/4 as per the size chart.

I’m still not sure if I’m really sold on footless tights as a whole but I do like them better than the cheaper thin cotton leggings because they hold their shape a lot better. Despite catering to a wider range of measurements according to the size chart, I found these to be a slightly smaller fit than the Pamela Mann stockings. They have markings inside the waistband so you can clearly tell which side is the back and differentiate them from any other pairs you have that might be similar (honestly, I have about ten pairs of stockings in my drawer and they all fit slightly differently so I wish everyone did this, it would make life much easier!). They’re really high waisted (go up well above my belly button) but I find that they tend to shimmy down a bit as I’m walking. That said, I compared these to the Sonsee footless tights and find the Lida ones to be a better fit in the leg for me, and slightly longer in the rise.

I don’t know that I would buy more like these as they’re not really my style but they are nice and so I would recommend them to people who like the footless style.

If you’re not familiar with The Tight Spot, you should definitely check out their range – as I mentioned they have both straight and plus size stockings. The plus size range includes everything from more everyday styles like the ones I picked to more fashion styles (and they have saucy thigh highs and crotchless tights as well!), I’d love to see more of the fashion styles in fun colours and patterns  there that they have in their straight size range.

Have you worn footless tights before?
How would you style them?

I’m going to have to have a look at the tight spot… it’s been such a pain finding tights that fit/don’t roll down (even when supermanning), so I’m really excited 💖

I have a pair of footless fleece tights – I wear these in winter, and pair them with some thick socks and boots – I’m not sure what do with footless tights otherwise 😅

Fleece tights are sooooo cozy, and are really warm during winter. I only have the one pair, but need more in my life 💖

I go natural now, after being convinced that there wasn’t anything that will fit me, even knee highs I gave up.

There are tights out there to fit, just takes a bit of hunting (which is what I’m here for). I went without for ages, but I much prefer to have warm legs
