Plus Size Halloween Costumes 2019

Plus size Halloween costumes 2019: LooksByLexington as Elton John in Rocketman; Hannah Godown as Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice; Janna Morton with a carved pumpkin head

One of the things I love the most about Halloween is dressing up. It’s super fun and a great chance to get creative with your costume. I love how so many people in the plus size community go all out, and I swear they just get better and better every year! Here are a few of my favourite plus size Halloween costumes that I’ve seen this year.

Chucky from Child’s Play

When I was a kid, my friend Brett showed me a Childs Play film and ever since then Chucky has creeped me out. Apparently I’m still not over it, because Evie Kemp’s take on Chucky gave me the shivers!

Cruella De Vil

I think Cruella was one of the most popular plus size Halloween costumes I saw this year! Sheri was one of my faves because she has DIYed this costume using pieces from her existing closet, with the addition of the wig and the cigarette holder.

Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice

As a kid, Beetlejuice was one of my faves and I secretly wanted to be Lydia Deetz. Hannah has absolutely nailed this look, complete with the requisite copy of Handbook for the Recently Deceased.

Elton John

This take on an iconic Elton John look featured in Rocketman is absolutely incredible. So much effort has gone in to this outfit, and I am so impressed (BTW if you haven’t seen the film, you should – I highly recommend it!).

The Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus

Amuck, amuck, amuck, amuck! #fatwitchfall

Hocus Pocus is a Halloween favourite, and has become one of my must watch movies every spooky season. Lauren, Julie and Mayra dressed up as the Sanderson sisters and I absolutely love it. A group themed costume is the best idea!

Cher Horowitz from Clueless

I’ve seen a few Cher Horowitz costumes over the years, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone wearing Cher’s gym class look. I love this – cute AND comfortable.

Ursula and Ariel from The Little Mermaid

The only thing better than a The Little Mermaid themed outfit is two The Little Mermaid themed outfits! Jazmina did a few incredible looks this year and it was really hard to pick a fave out of those but I was so drawn to Ursula and Ariel (closely followed by her take on Genie from Aladdin!).

Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz

The ruby red slippers, the gingham dress, the canine sidekick … all important parts of an iconic look. The Wizard of Oz has always been one of my favourites and I just love this so much.

A Gumball Machine

Halloween doesn’t have to mean scary or spooky. I love Kirsten’s take on a gumball machine – so clever! What other things from everyday life do you think would make a fun costume?

Dorcas from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

One of the things I loved the most about Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was the amazing costuming. This Dorcas inspired look is really fashionable and I think something that I would love to wear as part of my everyday wardrobe!

Storm

I always love a good superhero, and Louange’s take on Storm is so cool! This is a character I don’t see done very often, so I am stoked that Louange chose her.

Renaissance Queen and her Knight

Okay, so Anna has done a whole bunch of really amazing and creative costumes this year which made it incredibly hard to pick just one to include here. In the end it was Data’s knight costume that sealed it for me – how cute! Honorable mentions go to her Billie Eilish, Pikachu and Karen (who would like to speak to your manager) looks.

The Addams Meanie Family

It wouldn’t be Halloween without the Meanies, my favourite spooky family. Margot embodies everything I love about Halloween and is one of my fave inspirations when it comes to embracing my spooky side all year round. I love this family snap and wish that my boys would get on board for a family costume!

An Actual Pumpkin Head

It’s not really Halloween unless someone has a pumpkin on their head, right? I couldn’t leave Janna off this post because she went NEXT LEVEL and carved an actual pumpkin to wear on her head. Incredible. I love the dedication here, but also that Janna’s whole outfit was actually incredibly beautiful.

Subtle Everyday Spooky

I didn’t go to any Halloween parties this year, so I embraced my everyday spooky instead. I think I’m going to do that more often, as I’ve refined my wardrobe a bit I’ve found that I’m getting more and more pieces suited for that! Watch out witches, teenage Meg is lurking…
