New Zealand plus size fashion blogger Meagan Kerr wears Ruby & Rain Ngaio Tunic and Torrid Premium Leggings

Anyone else fully embracing leggings during the pandemic, or are y’all still in your pyjamas (also fine, no judgement here)? I honestly never thought my day to day outfits would involve wearing leggings so much. Then 2020 happened and HERE WE ARE! I was talking about how I’d ditched my hunt for the perfect pair of jeans in favour of leggings, and a few people asked me for leggings recommendations. So here we are friends, here’s where to find plus size leggings so you can be comfy too.

Above: Wearing Ruby & Rain Ngaio Tunic (my affiliate discount code MEAGANKERR will get you 10% off) and Torrid Premium Leggings. I’ve been wearing these leggings a lot over the last few months and they’re really comfortable. This is one of Torrid’s staple styles, I’ll definitely be getting this style again in other colours.

Leggings to wear at home

Most of my leggings are currently worn at home, paired with a t-shirt and a big slouchy jumper + slippers because it’s cold. I like them to be a decent thickness, and being super comfortable is a MUST. Sometimes I’ll wear them underneath a dress or a tunic if I’m going out, or just with a tee and a long cardi if I’m dashing up to the shops.

Slightly fancier leggings

Leather look, cut out details, satin, mesh… they’re fancy! These kinds of leggings are ones that look cool AF but I’m not likely to wear them when I’m just hanging out on my couch. I’ll save them for when we are in Level 1 or 2 and I want to keep that ultra comfy legging feeling when I have to leave the house … or perhaps I could wear them for #FormalFriday?

Above: Wearing Torrid Sweater Knit Leggings. I’ve got a couple of pairs of these in different prints and wear them all through winter. They’re really thick and warm, super comfy, and hands down my favourite plus size leggings. They are usually only available for a short period of time each year and are really popular, so if you want some you need to make sure you check Torrid regularly. Keep an eye on my Facebook and Instagram because I’ll post as soon as I see them available again!

Are they leggings or pants?

Ponte pants and jeggings walk the line between leggings and trousers. All the comfort of leggings but they’re usually thicker and feel a bit more like actual pants. Depending on your job they might be considered more work suitable as well – we love a work appropriate legging! I have the pair in the middle and I love them – such a good go to style!

Today I went on probably the most challenging hike I’ve been on since my surgery last year. It was only about 5km long (can I even count that as a hike?), but the trail was uneven in parts and there were quite a few hills, and it was so cold my lungs felt like they were frozen. For most of it, I was screaming “I hate this!” in my head, even though I was surrounded by the most beautiful forest and I love walking amongst The Redwoods. But I’m really glad I did it because even though my leg hurts and I’m tired, I feel invigorated. Now it’s time for a soak at @polynesianspa and a massage ⛰ Leggings and sweater from @rainbeaucurves, scarf from @farmersnz, sneakers from @nike #unlikelyhikers

Okay friends, there you go – a few great places to find plus size leggings and activewear! If you’re rocking leggings during the pandemic, I’d love to know how you’re styling them. I’m living in my knit leggings and a t-shirt with a big slouchy jumper and slippers because it’s winter here at the moment. Keeping warm and comfy is definitely high priority!
