Fat Girls Shouldn't Wear Stripes: Khayt Hanara

“When I go, I go balls-deep. In the morning I say to myself: “Self, if you’re going to ‘do’ today, then FUCKING DO today!” So when I need to put on clothes, then I go hard core and I FUCKING PUT ON CLOTHES! I find a massive surge in self-motivation when I get dressed properly. When I put in the effort to totally master my day, I am empowered.

“The bridled wench in me is no longer here; I refuse to feel diminished in any way simply because of the XL printed on my clothing tags. So I made a lot of my own that doesn’t have that shit on it. Or I cut tags out. If something doesn’t fit the way I want, I butcher it until it does. Add some bling on here, take it in or let it out there. I see clothing as costume, and I enjoy making a chameleon of myself. I don’t do that as a way to fit in, but more to upstage my demons that they don’t stand out.”

Hear that, ladies? The number on your clothes is just that – a number. It does not define you. There is no standard for clothing sizing, which means that that number really means nothing – I’ve got tops in two totally different sizes in the same style from the same brand that I bought in the same season, and they both fit me the same.

If you’re not at the part of your body love journey where you couldn’t care less what the number says (that’s where I’m at, and it’s liberating. More about that another day.), then cut the tag out of your clothes.  Seriously. Don’t let yourself be defined by the size of your clothing, let your style speak for itself and tell the world how fabulous you are!

I love how Khayt takes clothing and alters it to make it her own – does anyone else do that? I’d love to hear your favourite find and how you’ve changed it up!
