A complete colour makeover at Ministry of Hair

If you follow me on facebook, you’ll know that I’ve been getting excited about a complete hair colour transformation for a little while now.

I met with Emma and Hester from Ministry of Hair a few weeks ago to discuss what I wanted to do.  They eagerly took on the challenge, and snipped some test strands from my hair so that they could come up with a plan of action and change my colour in a way that would (fingers crossed) leave my hair in great condition.

Today finally arrived, and I headed in to their inner city salon for a day of hair madness.  But not before I snapped a quick “before” pic!

Meagan Kerr Hair Transformation - BeforeI’ve been brunette for quite a while and was super excited for a total change!

First Hester did one round of lightening of my hair.  As you can see below, just one round made a huge difference!

Meagan_LighteningStage1This is me looking super sexy with a barrier cream on my face.  Using a barrier cream means that you won’t colour bits that shouldn’t be dyed (like your face and ears).  As you can see from the ends of my hair, the old colour has lifted well and Hester had a great starting point to start adding colour from.

Meagan Kerr Hair Transformation Stage 2Apologies for the bad cellphone selfies – forward facing cameras take pretty low quality pictures! Not the best light, but you can see the beautiful copper of my hair!

Hester then hand painted a couple of different shades through my hair, to give it some more depth (ain’t no one got time for flat colour!).

Meagan Kerr Hair Transformation Stage 3So much copper! Hester curled my hair for me, so this is me waiting for my hair to set.  I thought I’d wait until I got outside in the natural light before I took an “after” photo.  Are you ready???

Meagan Kerr Hair Transformation - AfterRedhead, copper, ginger … whatever you call it, I’m in love! Hester managed to transform my hair to exactly how I’d envisioned it, without compromising the condition of my hair.

If you’re thinking about undergoing a colour change, I recommend having a consultation with your hairdresser in advance.  That way they can work out a strategy (and do some test strands if necessary), and provide you with an idea of how much the appointment will set you back (giving you time to save up if necessary – an absolute must if you’re a student like me!), as well as how long it will take.

If you’re in Auckland, I highly recommend that you pay a visit to the team at Ministry of Hair – they are professional and friendly, and will work wonders on your hair.  Check them out online or phone them on 09 336 1727.

What do you think of my new look? If you could choose any colour in the world, what shade would you dye your hair?

x Meagan

Your hair color looks fantastic, it’s always a bit scary but a good hairdresser is a must when doing a huge change 🙂

Thanks Jackie! I agree, a good hairdresser is essential. I’m so glad I had a consultation with Hester and Emma beforehand, because it meant they were able to get me the best possible results (and remove any doubts I may have had about making such a big change with a hairdresser I’d never used before).
