When I started thinking about the way that music informs my style, I couldn’t stop thinking about Taylor Swift’s song Style. It always makes me want to put on red lipstick (and sing along, loudly). It’s just a small action, but putting on red lipstick is like putting on a suit of armour for me – I feel strong, fearless and ready to take on the world.

Even just wearing jeans and a tee, sneakers and an anorak (can anyone say mom mode?), that lippy is like my secret weapon. It takes my style to the next level. Even though I’m unwell, feeling rushed, on my way to a meeting and my hair won’t do what I want it to, I’ve got my lipstick on and it’s giving me strength (and helping me look way more put together than I would otherwise).

This anorak, by the way – I recently bought it and I’m in love! It’s perfect for those days that are a little bit chilly (like today, brr!). Like red lipstick and a little black dress, anoraks are a pretty classic style staple, and great for finishing of a simple jeans and tee outfit. They’re especially great for the transeasonal weather we get in spring and autumn.
