Aussie Curves: Denim

AUSSIE CURVES header

I’m not really a big denim-wearer, because I mostly wear skirts and dresses (or leggings, gosh I love leggings!), but if you’ve been following me on facebook for a while then you probably know of my eternal hunt for a decent pair of jeans. Good news is, I think I’ve found them…

I read a lot of articles when I was at uni about the wearing of black in Kiwi culture, including Doris De Pont’s Black: History of Black in Fashion, Society and Culture in New Zealand, which is well worth a read if you can get your hands on a copy. I’ve always loved wearing black, and as New Zealanders we wear a lot of it, so I thought I’d offer up some of my favourite basic black pieces for the upcoming autumn/winter season.

Trend Tip: Winter Brights

While my wardrobe might be full of black clothes and other dark colours, I’m told that some of you are fans of bright pops of colour in winter! Having a hunt around, it wasn’t so easy to find awesome bright winter clothes for plus size ladies, so after searching far and wide, I thought I’d share some of my fave finds…

Trend Tip: Denim

Denim is not so much a trend as it is an enduring classic.  It’s pretty much a Winter essential, so here are a few of my fave denim pieces around at the moment.

No longer is denim restricted to straight legged jeans, there are jeans of all different styles and colours, as well as shirts, dresses, skirts, and of course, the ever cool denim jacket.

However you decide to embrace the denim trend, let us offer this one piece of advice: only wear one piece of denim at a time.  Double denim should be reserved for cowboys and awkward family photos

The denim jacket is such a classic piece that I couldn’t go past this one – while there are heaps of denim jackets out there (including some you’ll see a little further down the page), this unadorned number really reflects traditional denim jacket design.  No colour, no embellishments, just denim awesomeness. Style It: Casual Winter Blacks

As you all know, my wardrobe features a lot of black. So when the team at ASOS asked me to style up a few outfits for the New Zealand Winter season, I had to include a casual black outfit!

Quick confession: I wear a singlet/vest pretty much all the time. Not only does it help keep me warm (I get cold easily), but it also helps to give me a nice smooth shape to work with. This is a basic you should have multiples of in your wardrobe. View Post
