Guest Post: Plus Size Pinup

Guest post by Cara Hill

I think an important part of the body positive journey is wearing clothes that make you feel fabulous – at least, it has been a very important part of my journey. I find it nearly impossible to feel bad about myself and my body if I am wearing a kick ass outfit, one that I love, that I feel good in and that I believe looks good on me.

My favourite style at the moment is retro inspired – tops and full swings skirts or dresses that nip in at the waist, all worn with layers of petticoats underneath. It is a style that I feel fantastic in, and thankfully there are a number of companies out there at the moment that are providing retro reproductions (designs inspired by true vintage but in modern fabrics and colours) in plus sizes. The company I’m working for has been office-less for the last few months, with everyone working from home while we hunt for the perfect office space. We finally found it, and moved in last weekend. No longer can I work from home in short shorts and a tank or my pyjamas, I get to actually get dressed and see other people (okay, I may have been going a little stir crazy…)!

Trend Tip: Basic Black

I read a lot of articles when I was at uni about the wearing of black in Kiwi culture, including Doris De Pont’s Black: History of Black in Fashion, Society and Culture in New Zealand, which is well worth a read if you can get your hands on a copy. I’ve always loved wearing black, and as New Zealanders we wear a lot of it, so I thought I’d offer up some of my favourite basic black pieces for the upcoming autumn/winter season.
