I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the things I have in my wardrobe and how I style them. What things do I always reach for? Do I have basics that I can mix and match? What accessories are in my closet? More importantly, how can I make outfits work in different ways?

I borrowed the Rose dress from Ruby & Rain recently, and wanted to style it with three different accessories that I already had, to make three slightly different looks. To start off, I went for a hat that I wear often; a belt that I haven’t worn for ages; and a jacket.

This hat is my go to finishing touch for a lot of outfits. You’ve probably already noticed that, because I wear it quite often. It’s also perfect for those mornings when I realise I should have washed my hair but haven’t had time! Doug bought it for himself, but he wasn’t happy with the fit so I tried it on. Next thing you know, I’ve found myself a new hat! Not bad for someone who thought she didn’t suit hats.

For a long time, I wore a belt with dresses to give my waist a bit more definition. However, I don’t think I’ve tried it with a fitted dress like this before. I had an idea of what this would look like in my head, but it didn’t turn out quite how I expected. I probably wouldn’t style this belt with this dress again – maybe a thinner belt or a different colour? This kind of belt would suit a more flared style dress (or a top and a skirt like I’ve styled it here).

I have a lot of jackets (like, a lot) so I’m trying to wear them more often. They’re great thrown over a dress, and I like how this dresses the look down with a pair of sneakers. I could incorporate the hat with this look as well, those accessories are definitely a win for me.

This dress is a really good basic that can be worn in so many different ways. It comes in a few different colours, but I wanted to go for the petrol blue because it’s a colour I like but don’t often wear! I was thinking about some other ways to style this as well. If I had a faux fur gilet, I think that would look cool – I’ve seen Monique Doy wearing hers with a dress before and it looks super cute! This could also work for an office look if you pair it with a blazer and a smart shoe. How would you style it?
