What’s a girl to do when she gets an invitation to lunch and the dress code is double denim? Yes, you read that right – a double dez dress code.
Yesterday really marked the beginning of the silly season for me, with the first of six events in seven days. Fortunately things started off slowly with a casual Friday lunch with the Socialites team, who I’ve been doing a spot of work for. Their casual Fridays are themed, and this week it was all about the double denim. Luckily I recently purchased myself a wee prezzie – the jacket from 17 Sundays, so I was all ready to don my Canadian tuxedo.
I love double denim done right, and with blue denim I think it’s better if you have different washes so you don’t end up looking like you’re wearing a suit made from denim! I am pretty limited in terms of what denim I have in my wardrobe, so I’m glad my denim jacket looks great with my jeggings. I decided to carry the blue theme through to my striped tank (breaking things up with a bit of a pattern), and went with black ballet flats and handbag because they really go with everything.
I never thought I’d be the kind of person to really embrace the denim on denim look, but I’ve gotta say that I really like it. I’m even thinking that I might need to get a chambray shirt in my life – but do I go for a faded one or something a little darker? By the way, I have to say that 17 Sundays are the queens of denim – this jacket is the absolute business and I don’t know how I lived without it for so long, it’s definitely a wardrobe staple now!
