Diversity in Fashion

New Zealand plus size fashion blogger Meagan Kerr wears Ruby & Rain Totara Dress and ASOS Design Pork Pie Hat

When I was a teenager, I’d flick through fashion magazines and never see anyone like me (even when I was thin – not a lot of Māori girls in those fashion mags in the 90’s). Whether it was catwalks, catalogues or celebrity style, almost everyone looked the same. They were tall, young, white, slim and able bodied. Fast forward twenty years and not all that much has changed. While we do see a small amount of diversity in fashion these days, I don’t think that it’s enough. The majority of bodies that we are seeing are still tall, young, white, slim and able bodied. View Post

Wands at the ready for all things Harry Potter

Hands up if you’re a fan of the wizarding world of Harry Potter. I most definitely am – I’ve read the books, watched the films countless times, played LEGO Harry Potter on my PS4, and I’ve been playing Wizards Unite since it was in Beta (more on that in a minute). Naturally, this Ravenclaw gets really excited when new HP stuff comes out! Here’s a few things that have caught my eye lately. View Post

Where to buy plus size activewear

Where to buy plus size activewear: Livi Active at Lane Bryant

There seems to be a lot of assumption that plus size people aren’t or don’t want to be active. Obviously that’s not true – you can be active at any size doing a whole range of different things! One of the things I get asked about the most is where to buy plus size activewear, so I thought I’d put all this info in one handy spot. You might be hitting the gym, doing yoga, going to crossfit or walking your dog. Or maybe you’re running around after the kids, grabbing coffee with a friend or heck – even just sitting at home eating chips, cos a lot of us wear our workout gear when we’re just living our lives. No matter what you’re doing while you wear it, here’s where you can find activewear in plus sizes. UPDATED 21/02/22. View Post

Drink more water (so you don’t feel like a lizard)

Tips to drink more water and stay hydrated: Get a cool drinking vessel like this Pusheen cup

I like to think I’m doing a good job of staying hydrated, but the truth is I probably don’t drink as much water as I should. While I know I should be drinking a minimum of two litres a day, the reality is that some days I get to 9pm and I’m wondering why I feel absolutely parched – it’s because I’ve only had one glass of water the whole day. Time to give myself a very stern talking to. THIS IS WHY YOUR SKIN FEELS LIKE A LIZARD! DRINK UP, GIRL!

Nike has plus size mannequins and some people are mad about it

Nike has put some plus size mannequins in one of their stores, and it’s making some people mad. This basically happens any time there is a positive story about fat people doing anything anywhere. Even when that fat person is a mannequin. Yep, you guessed it, I have a lot of feelings about this. Grab a drink and pull up a chair. View Post
