Vote for This is Meagan Kerr in the navabi Curvy Blog Awards 2013

I’m pretty excited to be representing New Zealand in navabi‘s Curvy Blog Awards this year!

If I win, navabi will fly me to London, where I’ll get to model in a professional photo shoot, meet an international supermodel and ELLE cover girl Justine LeGault and British Cosmopolitan magazine’s Laura Puddy. I’ll get to visit London Fashion Week where I’ll get exclusive insights into the collections of some of the world’s top designers, and on top of that €500 to spend at navabi! Then I can come back and share it all with you…

New Zealand plus size fashion blogger Meagan Kerr wears Ruby & Rain Rose Dress and City Chic Embrace Jacket

Kia ora, I’m Meagan! You can read more about me here. I started this blog in 2012 when I was a 28 year old design and visual art student, as a creative outlet where I could talk about fashion and beauty. In March 2013, I sat down and tried to figure out what made me different from the hundreds of other fashion and beauty bloggers in New Zealand. You know what makes me different? My experience as a fat woman.

I started blogging specifically about plus size fashion for two main reasons – the first is that obviously I am a plus size woman myself, and as someone who has been fat all of my adult life I understand how difficult it is to find nice clothes for plus sizes in New Zealand that are reasonably priced. The second is that there were no existing dedicated independent plus size fashion media outlets in New Zealand. No magazines, no blogs, nothing. And so, I decided to step in to that gap.

On my blog you’ll find lots of fashion and style related posts, but also things I’ve experienced as a plus size woman – talking about everything from body image to skincare to travel. I’ve also got you covered with tips on where to shop, as well as discount codes and where to find the best plus size sales.

I’d love for you to come on a journey with me! If there is something you want to know, please leave me a comment on the relevant post or send me a message via my contact page. If you’re looking for something in particular and can’t find it on here, let me know! Chances are, it will be something that I can write about for you in a future post.

Aussie Curves: Vulnerable

AUSSIE CURVES headerAt the beginning of this year, I challenged myself to develop a healthy relationship with my body and become more comfortable in front of the camera. All year I’ve been working on this, and the Aussie Curves challenges have gone a long way towards pushing me out of my comfort zone and in front of my camera. So far this year I have shot (and exhibited) a self portrait series that included nude photos of me* and pictures of me in a bathing suit, as well as countless outfit posts.

This week’s Aussie Curves theme was vulnerable, and here I am: without make-up, and without clothes.

Heads up! My good friends at DMONIC INTENT have a pop up store running from today (Tuesday 23rd April) at in the Cross Street Arcade (214 Karangahape Road)! They’re selling a whole bunch of their amazing garments, hats and jewellery, which you may have seen at New Zealand Fashion Week over the last couple of years, and some art that you’ve won’t have seen (but should consider buying because it’s awesome!).
