Trend Tip: Tartan

Brought to you by Lightbox

If you’ve been following me on twitter and facebook, you have probably guessed that I’m a bit of a fan of Outlander

Claire and Jaime 1743 Outlander

By “a bit of a fan”, I mean that I’m an Outlander fangirl through and through! I’ve read all of the books in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series multiple times, and have seen all of the episodes of the new Outlander series. It’s available exclusively on Lightbox in New Zealand, and I’m eagerly awaiting episode 7!

If you want to get in to the Outlander mood and rock some tartan, then here are some great new plaid pieces for you…

Forever 21 Plus Tartan Plaid Woven Tee check red plus size fashion

Forever 21+ Tartan Plaid Woven Tee, USD $17.80 from Forever 21

I love this tee for a preppy look – wear it with some black tailored trousers and a pair of brogues for an easy but smart style.

Torrid Plaid Print Leggings red black check plus size fashion tights

Plaid Print Leggings, USD $26.50 from Torrid

Y’all know how much I love leggings! I’d wear these with a white tee and a biker jacket for a look that’s a little bit badass.

Tartan tunics have gotten much cooler since my school days! I love this style but it’s a bit too short for me to wear as a dress so I’d pair it with some plain black leggings and ankle boots. How would you style it?

Torrid Studded Plaid Flats - Wide Width red green tartan leather studs wide shoes

Wide Width Studded Plaid Flats, USD $34.50 from Torrid

How cute are these flats? Perfect for channelling the punk vibe – wear them as a pop of colour with black skinny jeans or jeggings and a band tee!

Outlander is amazing so far! Yes, I definitely need some more plaid. And also one of Claire’s gorgeous woolly grey scarves! I love how they’ve done the costumes – amazing production.

I’m LOVING Outlander. I’ve not read the books, and I’m debating if I should read them (I really want to!) but I often get frustrated when TV shows are so different from the books. Loving the tartan in this post, now I really want to go buy that New Look dress!

I am a massive fan of the books, and I think the TV series definitely does them justice! There was a lot of consultation with the author (you can even spot her in one of the episodes!), which I think was key in keeping the series true to the books.

Ohhhh Makere you need to get in there fast! The series is based on the first book, and they’ve only screened 6 episodes on Lightbox so far (and worldwide) so plenty of time to catch up! x
