As I’m sure you’re well aware, later this week I am going on my first ever solo trip overseas. While I’ve been making travel plans, I had a friend mention dress codes for flying, and it got me thinking about how we dress when we travel. Continue reading

Lost and Led Astray Tuck Hem Dress (4XL) and Oval Resin Necklace
Since spring cleaning my closet this year, I have tried to be more conscious of the things I’m adding in. Rather than spending small amounts of money often on things that will wear out quickly or will only last a season, I’m choosing things that will last a long time. Sometimes these things will cost a little bit more, and I need to save up for them – but trust me, the decision to invest in your wardrobe is one worth making. Continue reading
Last week I popped over to High Society’s Auckland headquarters to meet the team (including amazing designer and fellow Gisborne gal Sheryl May) and check out the new season looks for Chocolat, their plus size range. You might have seen me wearing Chocolat before, but I think that this season’s collection “High Spirits” is better than ever so I thought I’d give you a wee peek at some of my favourites. These would definitely be investment pieces for me because they’re great quality high fashion pieces, and I know I’d get a lot of wear out of them. Continue reading
What is your favourite place to shop?
I love City Chic, they have such a great variety of styles, stunning evening dresses and fantastic jeans. I do buy dresses from “the internet”, but always with a sense of dread because sizing can vary so much between brands. I prefer to try clothes on before I commit to them! As a busy Mummy, I tend to buy my basic everyday items from Farmers and Kmart. Continue reading
I love discovering new designers doing plus sizes, even more when they’re from right here in New Zealand! HALL is designed and made in the Wairarapa using natural fibres, and simple, minimalist shapes with a strong aesthetic. HALL is strongly committed to locally produced high fashion and sustainable practises, and has gorgeous clothes for women who wear sizes 10-24. I really love their summer 2015 collection, so I thought I’d share a few of my faves with you! Continue reading
Dani McAllen wearing Sheryl May at NZFW 2013
Photo / supplied
I remember going to New Zealand Fashion Week last year and seeing Dani McAllen (now the Managing Director of We Are Anthology) wearing an amazing outfit by Sheryl May (pictured left), and falling in love with the print. Now, Dani is a tall, slim, leggy babe and the likelihood of us fitting the same clothes is absolutely zero, so I figured I’d be completely out of luck and never get to wear Sheryl May’s beautiful designs. I popped by NAKED Empire – The Style Syndicate last weekend, to check out what amazing things they had in stock. They stock stuff from DMONIC INTENT, SYRE, L.S.D. (Little Sister Designs) and Ahoy Cutie to name just a few, and while I was there I tried on a gorgeous “one size fits all” DMONIC INTENT kaftan. I didn’t expect it to fit me, because DMONIC INTENT is a straight size range that goes up to a 14 and I’m obviously much bigger than that, but when the girls urged me to try it on… well.
People are forever asking me where to find great plus size fashion. And as a woman who grew up in small town New Zealand I totally understand the struggle to find something that makes you look and feel fabulous, rather than a frumpy curtain crossed with a shapeless sack. I might be fat, but I love fashion! So, here you go: a directory of great places to shop… Continue reading
The Miromoda Showcase was my most anticipated event of the week – partly because I had some friends who were showing their new collection and partly because I get really excited about seeing other Māori artists succeeding!
It seems like NZFW was ages ago! And I guess it has been a few weeks … my bad. Life just kind of got in the way, and I didn’t have time to even look through my photos from day three and day four of New Zealand Fashion Week! I’m determined to remedy that post haste though, so while I have a spare moment I want to tell you about the New Zealand Fashion Designer group show that I went to on day three.
