Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls

Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls by Jes Baker

Jes Baker is pretty well known in the world of body positivity as someone who is unafraid to talk about things that many shy away from. Her no bull attitude is what drew me to her, with her open letter to then Abercrombie and Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries and amazing “Abercrombie and Fat” photoshoot after Jeffries made some body shaming comments about why he didn’t want fat people shopping in A&F stores.

As soon as Jes announced her book Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls, I preordered it on Amazon. Continue reading

Miss Melicious Cupcakes

Missy aka Miss Melicious is the Queen of cupcakes. I was introduced to her delicious iced confections in 2010, when my boyfriend presented me with a whole box of Cherry Cola Cupcakes on our first date. He sure knows how to woo a girl!

Miss Melicious released her first cookbook in 2012, so you can make your own delicious cupcakes at home in just a few easy steps (and rumour has it that she would love to create a second book). Continue reading

Steal Her Style: Tris Prior – Dauntless

The Divergent Series - Insurgent

I love stories with strong female protagonists, and they’re pretty much my go to when it comes to reading. Before Divergent came out, I read the whole series of books on the recommendation of a few of my friends in the USA and thought that they were amazing. When the first film came out, I fell in love again – this time with the costuming. I know – typical style blogger, right? Almost all of the clothing in Divergent was made especially for the film, with costume designer Carlo Poggioli doing an amazing job of designing outfits for each faction that really represented them and reflected their traits. Nocturne Magazine Website shoot with Nocturne Girl Lily Lachrimae

Lily is proof that intelligence is hot! Get reading!

I had the pleasure of shooting with Nocturne Girl Lily Lachrimae recently, in a 1940’s themed shoot for Nocturne Magazine. We were fortunate enough to be able to shoot at my favourite book store, Hard to Find Books in Onehunga (pro-tip: make sure you take plenty of money when you visit there, because they have the most amazing selection of second-hand books at very reasonable prices, and you will want to buy everything within reach!).

Lily’s hair and make-up were done by the ever talented Cassie Ace, and styling was done by Lily herself. I’m only going to share a couple of the shots here on my blog, so you should pop over to Lily’s web gallery on the Nocturne website and check out the rest for yourself!

There is nothing better than curling up with a cup of tea and your favourite book.

There is a lot to be said for curling up somewhere warm and sunny, and escaping on mad adventures in a book…
