Skincare Ritual

For me, Sundays are about rituals. Breakfast in bed (preferably gluten free pancakes) with my boyfriend while we catch up on whatever show we are currently binge-watching. Cleaning the house. Blogging. A luxurious bath. And my Sunday night skincare ritual…

I have had a number of people wanting to know about the products I use, so in addition to the reviews that I do I thought I’d share my weekly skincare ritual (which just so happens to include my nightly ritual as well). All of these products are cruelty free and made by New Zealand companies! I always prefer to “buy local”, so it’s great to see that we have some wonderful skincare brands to choose from.

Step One: Remove Makeup

I spent a lot of time hunting for a good makeup remover and many of the ones I’ve tried have either been less than awesome or aren’t cruelty free. I wasn’t a regular oil cleanser before trying Orania Natural Skincare‘s Cleansing Oil, but I’ve definitely been converted. This stuff is amazing – it dissolves the dirt and oils (and makeup) on your face, and then you remove it with a warm damp cloth. It gets off waterproof mascara easily and makes my skin feel lovely.

Step Two: Cleanse

I have started using a double cleanse system, with the oil cleanser as a makeup remover followed by the Antipodes Grapeseed Butter Cleanser. If I’m not wearing any makeup then I’ll just jump straight in with this one. It’s pretty much how you’d imagine – soft and nourishing while also cleansing your skin. My skin feels really moisturised after using this cleanser, so if your skin is dry then this will be a real treat!

Step Three: Face Mask

Really the only difference between a normal evening and my Sunday skincare ritual is the addition of a face mask. Tailor’s Masque has long been a favourite of mine, and the best way I can describe it is that it just … sorts my skin out. I have a foundation brush that I use to apply it (which is only used to apply this, never for foundation!), as I find that helps me to apply the mask more evenly than when I use my fingers. I’ve repurchased this a number of times and I think that is the best recommendation I can give!

Step Four: Serum and Night Cream

I reviewed the Antipodes Anti-Ageing Minis about a month ago, and these are the full sized version of those. I’m still using them and still loving them – the combination of the serum and the night cream is super hydrating and just what my skin needs! For a more thorough review, see this post.

Want some? Find the Joyous Protein-Rich Night Replenish Serum for $57.20 and and the Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream for $62.50 or nab yourself the handy Anti-Ageing Minis Pack for $19.90 online or in store (the minis are perfect for travelling or if you’re wanting to try a new product).

My skincare routine is possibly excessively long, due to my never-ending battle with acne. I think most of my products are cruelty free, but with the exception of my Trilogy Rosehip Oil none of them are from NZ companies. I use acne treatments from Paula’s Choice, Cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser, too. I don’t have any masks that I regularly use, but the Tailor one looks interesting.

Ohh I do love Trilogy’s Rosehip Oil! Actually, all Trilogy products – the Everything Balm is my fave, it’s actually good for everything!

Me too! It lives on my bedside table and I put it on every night.
