Review: Yours Clothing

Hands up who is ready for summer – I know I am! Honestly, I’ve been counting down since the beginning of winter for long sunny days, sweet summer berries, ocean swims and adventures with my friends.

I’ve been looking for a maxi dress for a long time, and have found it really hard to find one in New Zealand that fits the bill – all the ones I’ve tried on have been too big in the waist, too small in the hips, not quite the right material or not the right pattern/colour for me.

As soon as I spied this maxi dress while perusing the Yours Clothing website (their sizes range from 14-36), I knew I’d struck gold – I loved the cut and colour of the dress, the simple pattern and the way the fabric sat on the model. When it arrived, I was not disappointed – I love this dress!

The fabric is a soft stretchy jersey, meaning that it’s super comfortable and lightweight. I can see me wearing this a lot over spring and summer! For spring, when it’s still a little chilly, I’ve paired it with a little knitted shrug – I’ve worn this quite a lot already and I think it’s going to get a lot more use over summer when I want a little cover up for evening BBQs and drinks with friends.

When buying from a new brand, one thing people always want to know about is the sizing and fit of the garments. Because it was my first time trying Yours Clothing, I went by the size chart – this is always a good idea as everyone goes by their own measurement system. The size chart indicated that I was a size bigger than what I’d usually get in other brands, so I ordered the dress and the shrug in the sizes indicated.

I found the sizes to be extremely generous and I think that because the dress is a stretch material I could have sized down one, if not two, sizes. I love it so much that I am going to make a couple of adjustments to it so that it’s a better fit – always easier to do if the garment is a little too big than if it’s too small! So I’d recommend sizing down if you’re buying something in a stretch fabric (but maybe buy to size if it’s a more structured garment).

This was my first time buying shoes online, so I spent a lot of time measuring my feet to make sure I had the right fit. I really love the look of these shoes, so was painstaking about getting the size right. I’d never heard of EEE fit shoes (that’s wide fit, for the uninitiated!) so was really unfamiliar with the sizing and made the rookie mistake of sizing down so unfortunately the sandals are the tiniest bit too small. They’re gorgeous though, so I’m going to reassess the sizing situation and buy some that are a better fit…
