Review: Dafni Hair Straightening Brush

Dafni Hair Straightening Brush - is it worth the hype?

I really love the sleek smooth feeling of my hair when it’s straightened, but it always takes me so long to do that I don’t do it very often. Last month, the team at Farmers asked if I wanted to try out the Dafni Hair Straightening Brush – I’d heard so much about it that of course I said yes!

With my current straightening iron it takes me about 45 minutes to an hour to straighten my thick wavy hair. To blow dry my hair straight it takes me about an hour and I’m not very good at it. It takes my hairdresser about half an hour. The makers of the Dafni say “if you would normally straighten your hair in 30 minutes, with the Dafni you will be good to go in about two or three. If your hair would normally take 45 minutes with a straightener, you will achieve your polished look in about five to six minutes”. That’s a phenomenal difference, and of course I’m always a skeptic so I had to put it to the test (on camera, of course, so you’d be able to see for yourselves whether it lived up to the hype).

The pros:
  1. It’s much faster than using a straightening iron. Instead of 45 minutes it took me a little over 10 minutes, and I think that once I’d perfected my technique (it took me a little while to figure out the best way to use it) I’d easily be able to do it faster.
  2. The Dafni is really easy to use! I have a lot of trouble both blow drying my hair straight and using a straightening iron, but this is literally as easy as brushing my hair.
  3. Straightening the hair at the back of my head was infinitely easier. Because you can only do small sections with a traditional straightening iron, it’s really easy to miss bits!
  4. My hair stays straight for longer than it does when I use a straightening iron – after five days (as long as I could hold off washing it) my hair was still as straight as day one.
The cons:
  1. I can only straighten my hair with the Dafni, whereas I can curl it using a straightening iron (well, it’s possible in theory, I never do it because it takes way too long and I’m not very good at it).

My verdict:

Consider me convinced, the Dafni is worth the hype! Straightening my hair is much easier and quicker than a traditional straightening iron. It doesn’t make my hair totally flat either, the result is more like when I go to the hairdresser and my stylist blow dries it straight, meaning that it looks more natural and still has a bit of volume. I was really sad that I was only able to borrow the Dafni for a week, and then I had to give it back, so I’m going to be buying one for myself.

SHOP IT: The Dafni Hair Straightening Brush is available for RRP $299.99 from Farmers stores nationwide or via their website.

Your hair is stunning in the before picture <3 as well as the after. I'm hopeless with straighteners and resent the time and money at hairdressers…so I'll try this thanks for the info

Thanks Susan, I hope you like the brush as much as I do! It’s made straightening so much easier and I spend way less time at the hairdresser!

I’ve had a keratin treatment which was wonderful. However it really only lasted about 2 months.
My hair is wavy-curly also, and to blowdry and straighten is about an hour … My arms get sore haha! This brush sounds amazing and worth it. Great to have a real review and know it’s not just a gimmick! Thankyou!

I wondered how long the keratin treatment lasted! I quite like having wavy/curly hair most of the time so I’m not sure if I would go for a keratin treatment. I love the idea of being able to straighten it sometimes though.

This looks so cool. I also love that it doesn’t make your hair totally flat. Hmm, I’m about due for new straighteners…

I think that (other than the time difference) is what makes it better than a straightening iron for me – it looks more natural. Let me know if you do end up getting the Dafni, I’d love to know what you think! x

Yikes! I can’t imagine spending so long on my hair, unless I was curling it (which I suck at so I wouldn’t)
Takes me about 5 – 10 mins to straighten my hair, depending on the length. Doesn’t take me long at all, even when my hair is super long but my hair is very fine.

Having thicker hair makes such a big difference! 5 – 10 mins is my ideal amount of time to spend on my hair 🙂
