Five things I love about the Apple Watch

Apple Watch review: Box and packaging

I’m a self-confessed Apple fangirl. Despite having tried many other kinds of computer and phone, I always find myself coming back to Apple products because they’re easy to use and compatible with each other, and my favourite new accessory the Apple Watch is no different.

The design is sleek and simple, the perfect combination of stylish and functional. I’ve got the Apple Watch Sport in the 38mm Rose Gold Aluminium Case with Lavender Sport Band (which is a mouthful!) and after giving it a thorough workout over the last six months or so I am ready to share a few of my thoughts on it.

Apple Watch review

Five things I love about the Apple Watch

1. It’s fully customisable

Not only can you pick what finish/colour you want like you can with the iPhone, you can also choose your strap (and have multiple straps like I do); change how the watch face looks; change what information shows on the watch face; pick how you want to wear it and customise the notifications you receive. There are many many combinations and being able to personalise my Apple Watch has made me like it even more. I switched out the lavender strap my watch came with for a black one, which goes well with my largely black wardrobe and looks great with the rose gold finish. It really is a great fashion accessory, and the changeable watch straps remind me a bit of the Swatch watch I had as a kid – you can change things up depending on your mood and the occasion!

2. It keeps me active

I spend a lot of my working day sitting at the computer, and when I’m in the zone I can be sitting there for hours without getting up and moving around. The activity tracker reminds me to stand up every hour, which not only prevents me from getting stiff and sore from sitting too long, it also encourages me to take breaks from staring at my computer screen! You can also measure how much you move around during the day, steps and distance walked to make sure hitting your activity goals; and how many minutes of exercise you’re doing, so if you are goal oriented and competitive like I am then it’s a great motivator.

3. It keeps me on schedule

This isn’t just a watch that tells the time, it can also gives me reminders of what I’ve got scheduled in my calendar so I know where I need to be. You can also take a peek at what’s coming up over the next seven days.

4. It makes texting easy

I’m one of those people who will get a text message when I’m busy, read it and then forget to reply until days later. Now I can read a text on my watch, and reply – all without pulling out my phone! There are a few pre-written responses to choose from or you can dictate your own reply.

5. I never miss phone calls

My iPhone 6S+ is a really big phone, so I usually carry it in my purse rather than in my hand or my pocket. That meant that sometimes I was missing calls because I couldn’t hear it ring! Luckily, my Apple Watch is my saviour – it vibrates on my wrist when my phone is ringing so I know that I need to get my phone out. You can also use your Apple Watch to answer your call, which is pretty neat – I feel like a spy when I do it! I don’t usually have a full conversation on my watch – I transfer the call to my phone once I’ve dug it out from the bottom of my bag.

Apple Watch review: changeable straps

My Apple Watch came with lavender straps but I switched them out for black ones

Was there anything I didn’t like about the Apple Watch?

I found that the lavender strap discoloured over a few months, in much the same way that my nail polish does when I get lighter colours. I switched out the lavender strap for a black one, problem solved. The only other thing I don’t like is that I seem to accidentally push the digital crown button on a regular basis, and end up taking screencaps of my watch screen or waking Siri up.

Would I recommend it?

Absolutely! It syncs with my iPhone, it’s user friendly, it’s multifunctionality means I don’t need to wear an activity tracker and a watch, and I can change up the straps to match my mood and my outfit. It’s my favourite accessory and it’s practical so it’s a win-win!

Want to get your hands on one? Head to the Apple store to customise your watch and place your order.

Have you used an Apple Watch before?
Let me know what you think of it (or if you wish you had one)!

I’d love an Apple watch but aren’t they like $1000? I love my ipad mini – it’s great for watching netflix and web browsing. Highly recommend it.

It depends on what style you get and how you customise it – mine was $499! If you wanna go SUPER fancy they can cost up to 2K I think?

I am an Apple addict….LAPTOP, IPAD, IPOD, IPHONE….but that watch is a step too far. I don’t like it. I love the reasons you like it but it’s not for me. To each their own.

That’s interesting to hear that you’re an Apple addict but not a fan of the watch. I’d love to know why you’re not a fan! What about it doesn’t do it for you?

I’ll be honest, I’m always a bit skeptical with Apple Technology. It took me a long time to accept iPads, not that I own one haha. The watch sounds good though! It does everything you need in one thing rather than having to wear a watch, a pedometer etc. The phone ringing feature must be handy too, I’m notoriously bad for missing phone calls. x

I have to admit, I have still never used an iPad! I really want one though, they look so handy. I’m a big fan of an all in one device, which is why I’m such a fan of the Apple Watch (and smartphones in general) – the less stuff I have to carry/manage the better!
