Rebel Yell

In the midnight hour she cried, more, more, more
With a rebel yell she cried, more, more, more

As you may have noticed, I’ve been making moves back to basics with my wardrobe. Lots of of blacks, greys and stripes, just how I like it. It’s anything but boring though, especially when I find clothes that are really versatile or have cool detailing. As I try to curate my closet a bit more, I want to make sure I’m adding pieces that I can wear for different occasions and that I can pair with multiple things in my wardrobe (because let’s be honest, space is limited!). I’ve got a few wardrobe staples to share with you as well as a discount code (because who doesn’t like saving money?), so grab a drink and read on.

This Rebel Yell dress totally fits the bill for a little black dress, and it can easily be dressed up or down. Personally I’m a dressing down kind of gal, so I think it’s great paired with sneakers; but it also looks fab with heels and a statement necklace. It’s not just any little black dress though – thanks to the tapered hem, you can also wear it bunched up at the bottom as a top. I haven’t tried that yet, but check out how the babes at Harlow have styled it here.

Y’all know how much I love stripes, right? Well I couldn’t go past this striped maxi skirt, especially when I saw that it wasn’t just a maxi skirt! It’s got a built in tie in the seam that you pull to ruch the skirt to your desired length, than tie off. If that’s not a bit of bloody genius, I don’t know what is!

I love midi and knee length skirts, and to find one that can do double duty and serve as both is a bit of a wardrobe saviour. Especially because it means I can change my outfit partway through the day without having to change my clothes. Does that sound high maintenance? It’s not really, just means I can switch things up when going from one appointment to another (or from work to drinks!).

The versatility of the skirt makes it really easy to style – my go to is with a basic tee. I’ve had this tee in two other colours and I love how soft and nice to wear it is. It’s the perfect go to and one of those pieces that just goes with any outfit.

Three basic pieces, all of which can be worn in multiple ways and styled with lots of different things in my closet. That makes them wardrobe staples for me! What are your “must have” wardrobe items? I want to help you get those wardrobe staples sorted, so I’ve talked to the babes at Harlow and have sussed you out a cheeky discount.

You can use the code TIMK10 to get 10% off anything at Harlow (excluding gift cards). Like many of their designs, that discount is limited edition – only available until 16th April – so if you want to use it then use it fast. Express shipping to NZ is $15, or free if you spend over $300.

While I don’t have this brand of dress, I do have others in a similar style – they’re sooooo easy to wear! I often wear it done up as a top and love to be able to get more than one way of wearing out of an item. I’ve also recently seen some ways of using hairties etc to create more shape in them, so may try that at some time.
And stripes – what’s not to love!!

Hairties remind me of how we used to tie our shirts up in the late 80’s/early 90’s! Great thinking, I’ll have to give that a go 😀
