Rainy Winter Days

In New Zealand (at least, the part that I live in), winter is not about snow – it’s about rain. Winter is cold, wet and oftentimes quite miserable – so warm clothes, umbrellas and shoes that will keep your feet dry are essential.

I recently picked up an umbrella that is perfect – it’s more sturdy than the little ones that fold up and fit in your handbag and it’s a decent size so I’ve not had any problems with it threatening to turn inside out with a gust of wind. I think Mary Poppins would be proud. You can’t beat a classic black umbrella – it goes with everything.

I picked up these ankle length gumboots while I was in Gisborne a wee while ago – and before you turn your nose up, let me explain. I have lots of leather boots and canvas shoes that I usually wear, but there is a part of our property that gets drowned in water when it rains, and unfortunately it’s the path between my garage and my house so it’s pretty unavoidable. I have lofty plans of fixing it at some point, but it involves tree roots which means it’s going to be costly, so I decided that in the interim I would get these boots (which I got on sale for $10) to keep my shoes dry when I have to wade through the enormous puddle.

Remember how I was talking about how I had no sweaters? After writing this post, I had to grab this one from ASOS. I’m so glad I did because it’s super comfy and warm, and perfect to pair with jeans (not to mention the tank top and tee I had layered underneath) on a rainy winter day. This was a great outfit to wear on my drive down to Taupo this week, and I couldn’t resist stopping to take some photos in the mist and rain. I think I’m going to be wearing jeans quite a lot this winter, because they’re warm and super easy to style.

What’s your go to outfit for winter?

These photos are gorgeous. I live in Washington state about an hour south of Seattle and our winters are the same way, we may get snow a couple of days that never sticks for any length of time, but it’s the damn constant rain during the winter season.

That’s such a cute jumper! Winter for me is jeans/ponte pants, a top and a cardigan. I have so many cardigans!

I need more ponte pants I think – I have somehow amassed a collection of leggings that are cute but not warm, so I never wear them! Another shopping mission perhaps?

I was browsing around (love the new look by the way) and HAD to leave a comment saying brrrrr, that looks FREEZING! OK. That’s all. Over and out. Haha.
