Plus size stockings

Where to buy plus size stockings

It’s winter and it’s very cold, so it’s not very surprising that I’ve had a lot of people asking me about where they can find plus size stockings. I’ll be honest – until recently I hadn’t worn stockings in a very long time, mostly because finding stockings to fit my fat thighs was next to impossible! Fortunately I discovered a few places that have awesome tights for fat babes…

Where to buy plus size stockings - Donatella's

Donatella’s

Donatella’s has stockings from an XL to an 8XL, and I think has the largest variety of plus size stockings that I’ve seen so far. The sizing varies, but most styles are available in a range of sizes. There are your regular everyday tights, coloured tights, patterned tights, fishnet stockings … pretty much everything goes!

I love the Baroque Floral Lace Tights – they’re available in sizes 16-32 and are a true to size fit. They are worth the investment – super cute and super comfortable!

New Zealand plus size blogger Meagan Kerr wears Isla-Maree Curve+ Miracle Dress and Sonsee Opaque 100 Denier Tights in Shadow

Sonsee Woman

SONSEE were the first plus size tights that I tried that I really liked, so they’ll always be a fave. I have their Opaque 100 Denier Full Tights in midnight blue, black, and charcoal, and love how soft and silky they feel against my skin. I’ve had these s a few years now and they are still the same shape and size as when I first got them!

SONSEE Woman stocks sizes 12-26, and I wear a size Radiant. SONSEE has great basic tights in a range of deniers and colours, as well as anti-chafing shorts and other intimates

Where to buy plus size stockings - The Big Tights Company

The Big Tights Company

I have some All Woman Thick Cotton Tights from The Big Tights Company, and I have to say that they’re my absolute favourite pair of stockings. They are super thick and really warm – perfect for winter! These ones are available in sizes 26-42, and they’re a must have if you’re spending your winter somewhere chilly! As well as a great range of everyday stockings, The Big Tights Company have many other styles of hosiery, including hold up stockings, knee highs and thigh high stockings to be worn with suspenders, and their sizes range from 12-42. Yes, fat babes can be super sexy!

More places to buy plus size stockings:

Allwoman Pantyhose: Based in New Zealand, they offer sizes 18-32. They also have stockings and plus size lingerie available.

ASOS: I’ve tried some of the ASOS Curve tights (they come in sizes 18-26) and recommend sizing up.

City Chic: This is a great place to buy tights in store in New Zealand (and Australia) or online. They have basic stockings year round and then in winter you can find colours, patterns and thigh highs from S-XL (NZ 16-22).

Hips & Curves: If you’re looking for sexy thigh high stockings then let me introduce you to Hips & Curves – available in sizes XL-6XL, these are some super sassy stockings!

The Tight Spot: Tights, stockings, hold ups … you name it! The Tight Spot stocks a range of brands in sizes up to 5XL. You can see my review of some of their stockings here.

We Love Colors: If you’re looking for bright tights, We Love Colors should be your first port of call. They come in sizes S-4XL and have a range of styles available.

Snag Tights: A great range of colours and patterns, in sizes A-F (4-28+). As of 2019 these are my favourite stockings – you can see my review of them here.

Do you have any other recommendations for where curvy babes can find plus size stockings or tights? Have you tried any of the ones I’ve recommended? I’d love to hear what you think of them!

Last winter I got sent a pair of Voodoo Voluptuous tights from hosiery.co.nz and wore them constantly, and bought some myself too. I’m about a size 20, and wear the size 2 in them.

I would highly recommend Sonsee Woman – I bought my first pair from them recently and love them. They are so comfy and great quality, they wash really nicely and keep their shape. I bought the 100 denier opaques. The only thing I would say is you may need to size down. I went for the 18-20 (which is my usual size) based on measurements from the website, but they do roll down a bit when I’m walking, so the smaller size would have been a firmer fit. Can’t rave about these tights enough though!

Thank you so much Meagan for your help – I missed wearing stockings (sounds weird, but I love them!) but the stock standard ones in the supermarket just weren’t tall or wide enough for me anymore 🙁 I got some from City Chic and ADORE them. So happy to have stockings that fit again, and PERFECTLY may I add.Highly recommend their stockings if anyone is in the same position as me. City chic is local to me, and I buy from their online store too, so super convenient which is good. Thank you!! xx

HI Meagan, I’m looking for thigh high or above knee hosiery and haven’t had any luck finding any that aren’t going to cost the world to send to NZ – The only place I can find is hips and curves and shipping is going to be $70 US and the hosiery (all 3 pairs) are going to cost $36US so cant justify the shipping. Have you stumbled upon some good thigh high hosery during your travels that you might be able to recommend to me?
    Thanks

Hi Meagan. Can I just say THANK YOU?! Only after stumbling across your blog last year had I come to know about the Big Tights Company. This winter is the first winter I am able to wear tights or stockings because I could never find any that fit me. I’m a big girl and the tights I ordered are still quite big on me, I was baffled they made tights this size. I love it!! It has made such a difference for me – for one, I’ve been so toasty and warm and two I feel a lot comfortable and confident rocking cute dresses and skirts that are a little bit shorter than I’d normally wear (knee length to above the knee length). So happy! 🙂

    • March 20, 2015 / 6:31 am

Thanks Carnz, I’m not sure what size these are, but I always go by the manufacturer’s sizing chart to find my best fit and would recommend that to anyone else 🙂 Also, you can find me on facebook here.

Hallelujah! ! Finally some stockings. .. I have been so keen to find some plus size ones for these thighs of mine…..if you don’t mind me asking but what size do you generally order in the sonsee range ….I’ve been let down in sizing too many times! 🙂 thanks heaps Meagan for sharing!!

    • June 12, 2014 / 7:56 pm

Hey Kirsty, I tried the Radiant ones (which is what I should wear according to the size chart) but they were too big. I’m wearing the Stunning ones, but I’ve lost a bit of weight and they’re starting to get a little big… I hope that helps! xo

I have only bought a few things online but have been disappointed with their sizing and fit. Have you shared your measurements on your blog? I love your clothes and they always look so good on you!

    • June 12, 2014 / 8:16 pm

      Hi Patty,

Thanks! I haven’t shared my measurements because they change so regularly, but I’m more than happy to answer any questions you have about a particular piece
