No Big Deal

Some of you may remember that I had a photo shoot a few weeks ago (and how nervous I was!). I’m excited to finally be able to let you know that it was for Sunday Magazine, which you can find inside the Sunday Star Times this weekend (on Sunday, obviously).

I’m on the cover of a magazine, no big deal! Except it is. It’s a MASSIVE deal! My “serious model face” (called fierce by some, bitchy resting face by others) graces the front cover of Sunday Magazine this week and I’m so very excited to be able to share this sneak peek with you today!

I was approached by writer Therese Oneill a few months ago, wanting to interview me about “fat women choosing clothes based on their love of fashion, not on how “flattering” (code for making your fat as hard to see as possible, often at the sacrifice of any personal style) and “appropriate” they are”. Of course I had to say yes – that is pretty much the basis of my blog right there!

I have read an advance copy of the article, and I must admit that I was initially a bit nervous after the editing job done on a TV interview I did earlier in the year, but I’m really pleased with how it ended up. I am excited to have been included in this piece alongside fellow fatshion bloggers Whitney from POC Fat Fashion and Sian from Sort Life Out; Buy Milk, because it helps to share the message that style has no size.

I’d love if you would pick up a copy of the Sunday Star Times tomorrow and read the article in Sunday Magazine. Even more if you could share this post with your friends so that they know to pick up a copy as well!

I’m sure that there will, as always, be a number of narrow-minded body-shaming twerps that surface as a result of this article. It seems almost inevitable, given my experiences following my previous interviews with mainstream media. If you happen to be one of those people, please feel free to read a few blog posts and open your mind a little (I suggest starting with this one and then moving on to this one). Still want to make a comment? Make sure you’re familiar with my comment policy:

Please note that this is a body positive space and any kind of body-shaming will not be tolerated. While your comments are welcomed and discussion is encouraged, I reserve the right to remove comments that I view as offensive, including (but not limited to) remarks that are racist, sexist, homophobic or are in any way derogatory. I reserve the right to edit/remove comments that are off topic or are used for the purposes of self-promotion.

With that said, thanks to all of my readers for their support (and to my new readers, welcome!), I can’t wait to hear what you think of the article!

xo Meagan

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for sharing your thoughts! In another magazine, those things might have been included but that isn’t really the kind of magazine Sunday is. Perhaps one day you’ll see me in a magazine that includes more editorial photography! In the meantime, you’ll find plenty of colour and style right here, and perhaps more than a few new blogs to check out! I recommend having a look at my Aussie Curves posts and following the linky at the bottom to lead you to lots of wonderful new websites! xM

I’m glad you liked how it turned out, hon. You are brilliant, and I’m so very grateful that you’ve created this blog, this persona, this empowerment. And everybody stop putting an apostrophe in my damn name. It gums everything up. 🙂
