New Year’s Resolutions 2016

2016 New Years Resolutions

January 1st. The day when people wake up and swear they’re never drinking again, make New Year’s resolutions to drink more green smoothies and eat less sugar, or vow that they’re going to lose weight and “be healthy”, right? Nope I’m not going to pay for a gym membership I’ll only use for a month, only eat kale and quinoa, run until I spew or try yet another ridiculous diet in an attempt to starve my body and be slim. Fuck that. My goals for 2016 are all about making more time for myself and living a fabulous life.

For my New Year’s resolutions, I’m focusing on improving a few aspects of my life. Because I’m a chronic over-sharer (hello, blog life!) I thought I’d let you in on what my personal goals are for this year. As I’ve already mentioned, most New Year’s resolutions are bound to fail after the first month or so because they’re poorly planned. You need to set goals and make a plan, so that’s what I’m doing for 2016 – I’d love you to join me. If you’re hungover (or still a bit drunk), that’s okay. Grab your blue Powerade, have your greasy breakfast and come back when you’re feeling up to the task. If it’s February (or later!) by the time you’re reading this, that’s okay – it’s never too late to set some awesome goals for yourself.

HEALTH

I’m take a “more or less” approach to health. Some things I want to do more of, and some I want to do less of. Rather than starting out my year saying “I’m going to cut out dairy, sugar and carbs, and I’m going to run 20km a day” (just kidding, y’all know I have always hated running right?), I’m setting monthly goals for myself that incorporate the things I want to do more or less of. I’m picking one thing to focus on for each month, meaning that I’m not going to be overwhelmed by making big changes, but rather making small adaptations each month. My health goals centre around making time for exercise for both my physical and mental health and changing my relationship with food so that I can learn healthier behaviours and stop my patterns of disordered eating.

MORE: Drinking more smoothies – a good go to when I am too busy to prepare a full meal. More exercise – I want to walk more to help rehab my knee and clear my head; and I want to practice yoga more often to strengthen my muscles, improve my breathing and my practice. I also want to go to bed earlier (and develop better sleep habits) and make time for meditation, reading, family and friends.

LESS: After talking to my nutritionist last year, there were a few things I’ve been eating that I want to cut back on – processed sugar, dairy and soy are the main ones. I also want to reduce my stress and the amount of hours I spend working.

One of the things I have to help me with my goals is the brand spanking new Apple Watch that my boyfriend gave me for Christmas – it reminds me every hour to get up from my desk and stretch/walk around plus it gives me a daily exercise goal and you know how competitive I am with myself! Stay tuned for my review of that a little later in the month.

MY GOALS:

  • Make time for exercise
  • Drink 3L of water a day
  • Get enough sleep
  • Eat delicious things that make me feel good

2016 New Years Resolutions: work/life balance

WORK

I’ve already mentioned that I want to spend less hours working and reduce my stress (some of which is work related), but I’ve also set some goals about how often I want to blog, what I want to blog about, some of the brands I’d love to partner with and some blog targets! One of my big goals is to have set work hours rather than being at my computer for what can sometimes be 17 hours a day. Yep, you read that right. I’m officially on holiday until the 18th of January, but when I get back I will be making a plan to help me nail those work goals.

MY GOALS:

  • Set work hours
  • Take regular breaks

2016 New Years Resolutions: save for my dream house

MONEY

The only debt I have is my student loan, which is interest free and paid regularly from my income, so I’m focussing on saving my pennies instead. I’ve got Kiwisaver set up and also have a savings account set up so I can save for a deposit on a new house. I’d really like to be able to buy one by the end of the year, which is quite ambitious, but if I cut back my spending a bit on things I don’t really need (subscription TV, all those sale “bargains” and buying things for my garden that will inevitably die within a couple of months because I don’t have a green thumb); set myself a strict budget for clothes shopping; and sell things I have but don’t need/use I think I can get there. Once I’ve got my budget sorted, I’ll be putting any extra money into that savings account each month.

MY GOALS:

  • Save for my dream house
  • Be wise with spending

2016 New Years Resolutions: make time for life

LIFE

There’s no question that work is (and has always been) a big focus for me – even more so now that I am self employed. This means that I don’t make nearly as much time for my friends and family as I’d like to. In an attempt to make that work/life balance a bit better I am going to set regular work hours, take days off, make sure I take holidays (like I’m doing this summer! Bring it on Taupo!) and spend quality time with my family where we’re not staring at our phones – there have already been a few beach trips and board game sessions this summer. I’m going to be making sure I have my phone away at a reasonable time so I can get to sleep at a decent hour as well, which means more quality time with the Mr.

MY GOALS:

  • Say no more often
  • Spend more quality time with family and friends
  • Take time away from technology

2016 New Years Resolutions: self love and me time

SELF LOVE

Self love is something I talk about a lot here on the blog (and will continue to do so), and while my previous years have focussed on being fearless in fashion and being confident, this coming year I want to spend more time doing things because they make me feel good. Reading books like this one by Jes Baker, taking baths, getting massages, pampering myself, building forts, surrounding myself with great people who uplift my spirit (and not spending time with people who crush it) … it’s all about self care and self love baby! Just quietly, for those of you who are interested, I’m also planning to run some body confidence/self love workshops this year – let me know if you want me to come to wherever you are and stay tuned for more details later in the month!

MY GOALS:

  • Take many delicious baths
  • Spend time with positive people
  • More me time
  • Spread the love
  • Read more books

I’m going to have a few goodies to give away this month that might help you with your own goals for 2016, so make sure you stay tuned. Share your goals with me below if you’d like, and let me know if there is anything that you’d like to see on the blog this year that might help you with your goals.

Happy New Year!

xo Meagan

I’m going to share all mine for you, I’ve made them into little soundbites so I’ll feel good about them and remember them easily and in a fun way:

    Year of the Fit
    Eat Well
    Balance
    Travel
    Innovation

Year of the Fit is about trying as many different and new ways to exercise, looking forward to trying Bikram this year but also looking forward to getting back into Zumba (I freaking love it and it makes me happy!) and of course more walking with Nahlies. Eat Well is getting back to being a great vegetarian and planning and making more healthy and sustaining meals, I love cooking – just want to make more time to do it. Which is part of what comes in on the whole balance thing, balance sleep, work, self love/me time and blog time. Travel – after being a mature age student and the financial fallout after that, Husbandito and I have been zilch places on the travel scale, changing that up this year for NZ and Overseas is a major goal. Innovation is all about finding ways to do things smarter not harder and to ramp up the new stuff on blog for me.

    Love this post! Kate x

Your goals sum up mine pretty well too! I’m loving the walking adventures on your snapchat with Nahlies, we need to organise a doggy date!

  2. February 1, 2016 / 8:33 am

My 2016 goal is to get into a fitness routine and stick to it! I find when my exercise is sporadic and random I see no results, I function so much better with routines 🙂 xx

    • February 1, 2016 / 1:05 pm

What kind of exercise do you enjoy Laura? I agree, it’s so much easier when it’s routine and you just do it

  3. January 31, 2016 / 11:05 pm

This year I’m wanting to gain some muscle strength (pretty sure I have zero) and achieve some level of fitness – I spent all my time inside last year so I want to get out! On a mental/emotional level I want to give myself a break – I tend to give myself a million things to do and be disappointed if I don’t get them all done perfectly.

I’ve decided to be more “selfish” say no more, and take more time for me, I usually help other people, don’t focus on my own problems, and I need to save more money, especially if I want to go to the US this year, and I need to save for my future, as I’ve learnt. I know none of this is going to be easy, but I’m going to do it this year.

My goals are to get fitter/walking longer and faster and focus on starting my next life step- a PhD! 🙂

My wellness goals are a little bit all over the place but for me it’s getting out and about, and also working on my anxiety. Whenever I am frustrated or angry, I have made a promise to write that down, and then let it go. I’ve also started doing a few things outdoors that make me happy (fishing! haha) and I’ve started letting go of certain things in life aren’t giving me that opportunity to find my inner “zen” 🙂

  7. January 31, 2016 / 9:33 pm

My main wellness goal for the New Year is to move more. I have joined a casual dance group with some friends to dance once a week and I am planning some scenic walks around the city. Slowly but surely I’ll get there!

  8. January 15, 2016 / 9:03 am

I would love to read that book! My new years resolution is to take more time to catch up on what other significant people in my life are doing. To often do I get caught up in my busy life and just don’t bother to even scroll through my FB feed. I want to take time each week to really catch up and show my life and support to those friendships. It’s important to show lots of love <3 xx

I am not wanting to anymore end up in hospital because of my illness, and when I say I will do something to carry through with it. Since struggling with Depression some days I have just wanted to curl up in bed but realize that once I am out and about doing the things I had said, life is much more enjoyable being around those who uplift me 🙂

I’ve never been much of a goal maker. I’ve always been happy to just go with the flow when it comes to life. I am however, very (read: incredibly, almost dangerously) competitive so I made 2016 the year I wanted to use that to my advantage and turn it into something positive instead of hating myself for it. So i guess my new years resolution is for both my mental and physical health. I’ve actually been looking at fitbits over the past month or so because I think the ability to track my steps and activity is a good way to channel my competitiveness into improving my health.

I hope 2016 is an incredible year full of abundance and love for you! <3

I’m not big on New Years resolutions, but I do want to spend more time on meditation and yoga this year 🙂

  13. January 8, 2016 / 9:15 am

Being more mindful, eating less processed sugar, keeping to goal! Exercising more to support my bad back and setting a good example to my preschool girls- less time on the computer!

Hi I stumbled upon your blog by accident and I’m so glad I did, you are such an inspiration to young women and to us older ones. I have struggled with weight all my life, been on yoyo diets, and put it all on, I never seem to look nice in any clothes, and being short doesn’t help, but looking at your photos, has given me the kick up the bum I need to get motivated, and do something about my self care. I have bursitis in my knée and need to exercise it more, so a fitbit thingy would be great to get me motivated and off the blinkin couch. Thankyou for sharing your story

    January 8, 2016 / 8:48 am

The goal for this year is to look after myself both physically and mentally. Start eating better, exercise more, make more “me time” and just generally feel better! 🙂 And to stop comparing myself to others – I do this so often and then end up feeling like i’m not good enough. Need to just be me! 🙂

    January 6, 2016 / 9:39 pm

I’m not one for resolutions, as I think they’re a bit of a gimmick, that are rarely followed through (because you say them because it’s the done thing in the new year, rather than because you truly want to do it if you made it any other time of the year) BUT I do have a few things in my life that are kinda at the point which need fixing…. and they’re all connected, so I have to start tackling them all together. I’m not happy with my lack of exercise, so want to get back into boxing. I’m not happy with the state of my diet, as I currently eat out lots at the moment (she types while waiting in the car for her man), this is largely due to my current living situation – my flatmates/landlords are not so good at sharing the kitchen, so ouf of sheer hunger/frustration, I often either resort to takeaways, dining out, toast, or, gasp, nothing for dinner. And I love cooking and baking, so this is not good. Both the food, lack of exercise, and the associated blossoming of my waist because of these has upped my stress, which I also want to get more control over, as I’ve been having quite a few anxiety attacks lately, often for no good reason. And then there’s my relationship with my wonderful man – we got a bit wobbly last year, due to everything else getting in the way, but we’re back on track, and I want to focus on making sure we stay that way 😊

    January 6, 2016 / 1:19 pm

My health goals this year focus mainly on my mental health – being a long time sufferer of Depression and Anxiety I want to learn to control it and not have it control me – am actively working towards this by finding and doing things that make me feel at peace – like gardening (who knew!!!!) and renovating my first home, by myself. Hopefully this will also have physical health benefits too 🙂 a fitbit would help me keep track of my exercise and let me know when I need to kick it up a notch 😉 I have wanted one for ages, but having just bought my first home on my own its not top of the priority list right now 🙁

Good luck to everyone!! Im sure Meagan wishes she had more than just the one to give away!!!!

My goals are to be kind to myself, I can be my worst critic and I really don’t know why, I would never treat someone else the way I treat myself so I really am going to put myself first this year. I’ve started out by pampering with face masks, hair masks and bubble baths that make me feel good and also bought a bunch of pretty maxi dresses too, just simple things but they are making all the difference. I have a Shakti mat on the way and am looking forward to reflecting & focusing on me

I need to become healthier for myself and my children. I been wanting a Fitbit but I don’t have that kind of money for one. It would be a blessing to win one so it can help aid me to become healthy

I’ve been a bit different this year and separated my goals into Months. I find if I do an entire year I get disheartened not seeing results quickly, so i’m trying to see if having smaller goals, achievable each month and slowing getting more difficult will keep me on track. This month I have set a ‘steps’ goal for each day and am doing Meat Free Mondays, as I definitely think there are huge benefits cutting out meat. I don’t know if I could do it all the time yet, but slowly working towards it I think is super achievable. I also have some person not health related ones, like having less screen time, and 2 hours set without checking my mobile in the evenings to be present more. and weirdly some Instagram goals on the photo’s I take improving etc. 🙂

I’m aiming to be ‘Fit and Sporty’ not ‘Fat and Forty’ this year by taking part in my first ever marathon – i’m preparing for 6 months for it but i’m determined to keep to my schedule and regime – I’m in it ‘for the Long Run’!

Work life balance as a busy mum and finding time for me

  27. January 4, 2016 / 5:14 pm

I’m a bit of a floater in terms of not committing to things, I’ll stumble across something quite happily until the next interesting thing comes along. I don’t think that’s always a bad thing but I definitely want to be more focussed and conscious about what I commit my time and energy to.

🙂 Great goals! My personal Goals are to say yes more to more opportunities and if opportunities don’t arise, make them happen myself. Make 2016 the best year yet!! You are the commander of your own life so its time for me to step up the challenge, and make 2016 the best year yet in all aspects of life.

  29. January 4, 2016 / 1:21 pm

I want to have better work/life balance this year and that means taking care of myself first and recognising when I’m starting to get stressed. I hope to eat better and also be present in the moment rather than thinking of everything else I need to do. And I want to be fit to help withstand the rigours of working full-time and being a Mum of 3 – whew!!!

  30. Stephanie
    January 4, 2016 / 10:21 am

My goal for 2016 is to try out new activities and to make more time for exercise whether it is just a 15 minute walk!

  31. Jana
    January 4, 2016 / 9:48 am

I plan to say yes more often. Yes to more outings with friends and yes to new opportunities

  32. Gemma
    January 4, 2016 / 9:40 am

Mine is to make time for me!! Whether it’s going for a walk or just having 10 minutes for myself. Plus drink more water!!

  33. January 4, 2016 / 9:20 am

I’m not calling it a resolution, because I never stick to them but I’m just going to continue on my path of being better everyday than the day before.
Wether it be walking further or faster, or eating more fruit and veges, drinking less alcohol and cutting back on processed sugars.
It’d be great if I could tone up for my wedding in November or when I really start to notice the difference in how I feel. xx Happy New Year Meagan xx

Wellness goals for me include staying injury free and spending more time on organisation so I have time to spend with my family and eat less convenience foods. I also want to focus on being more positive and not letting negative people or thoughts interfere with my goals.

I love your goals, they mirror my own in a way.
I don’t usually set goals for the year as in the past, I have ended up with the same goals the following year to, they never get sccomplished but last year… I nailed my goals! So this year I am hoping to do the same.

    Goals for this year,
Continue on my get fit/get healthy journey. I started it so that I could keep up with my 8 year old son and also as Dad had heart failure two years ago, so had that scare floating around and being a older Mum, wanted to do everything to make sure that my son had a active Mum. It was good for both of us, we do walks together, we exercise together, we spend more time together. Which is where the Fitbit Charge HR Heart Rate + Activity Wristband would come in handy.
Work, finally got a job last year that was perfect for my sons school hours. And in the last couple of months, have been promoted. Will continuw to work hard while at work, bringing forward new ideas. Its been rewarding personally and financially being back at work.
Money, now that I am comfortable and confident in my job, I can finally save, would love to take my son to Australia for a holiday, I’m definitely not getting any younger and one of his dreams is to go on a plane to Aussie, he studies the animals there and all. It started as a school project.

Ahhh I gone on and on haha
Anyway its all going to be fab to help with my wellness this year, less stress, more energy and lots of positive love 🙂

  36. January 4, 2016 / 4:14 am

I am working daily on eating better starting with eating a good breakfast which is my biggest issue plus being positive, even if I do not meet each goal!!

    January 4, 2016 / 3:52 am

My resolution this year is to “keep moving”.

  38. Anita
    January 4, 2016 / 2:26 am

I commented on your post earlier but wasn’t very specific about my own resolutions because I was still thinking about them. But in the spirit of starting with resolutions I can keep. I loved your more and less concept for health goals and I decided to use this idea. So more movement (walking, gym, body pump, yoga), less excuses, more structure and routine, more balanced diet.
And with work I want to extend my skills as much as possible so volunteer for more tasks and training opportunities.
And with my study – definitely more structure and routine! Less stress and last minute work!

  39. January 3, 2016 / 11:59 pm

My goal this year is to lose weight for my wedding in December. At the end of the day,I’m OK with who I am as a person but I would like to look nice on the big day. Fingers crossed that I can stick to my goal…I’m a sucker for good food haha.

  40. January 3, 2016 / 11:31 pm

I’m committing to reduce my processed sugar and overall calorie intake…WITHOUT looking at the scales. This way I can make sure it’s about my health and how I feel, not a number.
I have installed a couple of apps to help me keep track of this and achieve my goals.

  42. January 3, 2016 / 11:20 pm

I weigh 105kgs and i would like to be 80kgs by october so me and my partner can try for a baby. Im acheiving this by going to the gym 4 times a week, going for nightly walks with my partner and eating as healthy as possible. A better me so i can be in peak condition for a baby. Thanks

My wellness goals this year are to get my diabetes back under control, lose a bit of weight and just work on my overall health. I had two surgeries last year and really want to avoid any more hospital visits this year. I have been drooling over the fit bit for a few months, and as much as my health is a major focus for me this year, so is my financial health – over-eating and over-spending are my two biggest failures – so winning one would be awesome.

    Clean eating everyday
Adding a rare treat along the way.
    Water is the miracle drink

Yoga I have wanted for so long a time
Joining I will and I’m going to shine
Gentle exercise to make ageing joints strong
Lean muscles and energy my body does long
Let’s move house it will be less stress
Focus Save money live without duress
    Travel visiting family and friends
Wellness for my soul I must also attend

My wellness goal for 2016 is to make my mental health a priority. I’m going to switch out old habits with new ones such as journaling daily, yoga, spending more time doing things I enjoy and soaking up nature.

My goal is to eat less rubbish and exercise more not necessarily to lose weight but just to be a happier healthier me.

I’m also doing a more or less approach with the yearly motto to just move more. I am also setting aside 1 to 2 RAOK to women to help them embrace colour in makeup and help them find their perfect red lipstick. It’s going to be an awesome year and I’m super excited about it.

Is like to regain my fitness after having a baby. I will start with walking and gradually build it back up from there. This fitbit would really motivate me and keep me on track.

Really good goals Meagan! After practically every new year of my life saying “my goal is to lose weight”, instead my goal for 2016 is to be the healthiest version of myself that I can manifest. That includes morning smoothies thanks to my new Christmas present of a Nutribullet, and taking regular walks in our gorgeous Auckland city.

You are inspiring. This years goals is to liveeee and be happy. In 2015 due to health reasons I had to lose weight. I did this with 40kgs so far lost. But I’m only halfway. I managed to get to a public pool last week. First time in 15 yrs. (thank you for the recommendation on farmers resort wear). I’ve just joined the gym which is where I would love a fit bit for. (Also thank you for the leisure wear recommendation for farmers). This is my year. I’m going to travel….. (I can finally fit in a seat). I’m going to go out with my friends (instead of making excuses to stay home.). I’ve wasted so many years hiding and now I’m going to shine.

Eat healthier and drink more water. I find both of these easier to do in the summer while the weather is warmer and fruit and veges are cheaper. It’s great especially for the kids and myself! We’re also outside a lot so fitness is easier. Wish summer was all year round! 🙂

To do more for me. I am a teacher of little people, mum to 8 mainly adults now and now I am fitting in caring for my elderly sick mum in law. This last year saw me gain weight, gain pain, lose sleep, lose income and age as I took to much on. I can’t change the things I hve to do but I
Am working on getting help to minimise the load a bit. My first walk yesterday at 9 pm for 25 mins was delicious. Made me happy And gave me time for me. I think. Fitbit would help as I lve having something visual that makes me more competitive with myself. I also hope to bike some more this year to minimise pain Thanks for the chance Megan you and noël leeming are gems 😘🌈

My goal is to get out and walk more – I will achieve this by walking more! 😉 I would seriously LOVE a Fitbit Charge HR to keep track of my walking and in turn help encourage me to get walking more! Happy New Year Meagan. Keep up the great work! 🙂

My New Years Goal is to be get my blood pressure down! I have three boys 12,9 and 7 and during my pregnancy with my first I developed pre eclampsia which gave me extremely high blood pressure. This in combined with losing three close family members in 3 years I was on a course of self destruction. 12 years on I am still on medication, so my goal is too exercise five times a week and eat healthier. I have looked and would love a Fitbit but having three boys who constantly need things I can’t bring myself to spend money on myself. I think a Fitbit would be the motivation I need!

My goal for 2016 is to incorporate more balance in my life. I study part time and travel for work and in the rare spare moments that I get, I usually spend this time on renovating my old home. I am looking forward to working towards more work life health balance and maybe have some occasional moments of fun

  72. January 3, 2016 / 8:26 pm

Mine is a mental wellness goal: be more positive! Change your thoughts and you’ll change your world! I’ve been too negative for far too long. Of course, I do want to push myself more fitness-wise, too. I got pretty slack with visiting the gym in 2015 and this year I REALLY want to hit it hard! I want to feel good and that requires trying to tackle this chronic lower back pain with core fitness!

I’ve decided to do something completely crazy for me, train for a Triathlon. I’ve tried many times to eat better and exercise but after 3 weeks I fizzle. I thought if i had a long term goal like this id be more likely to stick to it. Im currently the most unfit/unhealthy I have ever been. I’m not a runner, have been on a bike once in the past 20 years and haven’t swam a length of a pool for about 6 years! The hardest part for me will be the run, I hate running, but I’m determined to train and see this through.

  74. January 3, 2016 / 8:25 pm

My wellness goal is to learn to say No to the things you need to say no to & Yes to the ones you need to say Yes to…its really hard to determine which is a Yes & No sometimes 🙂

My wellness goals this year are everything in moderation, I’ve spent years trying to cut things out of my diet not to drink etc it just doesn’t work for me I rebel against myself every time..so I will enjoy a wine and snacks with family and friends but instead of being like I’m fat anyway and just keep eating I will have a moderate serving 😊 that fit bit would certainly help me keep track of my movement as I’m often in denial about how active I am.I am a chef I stand in a kitchen all day so not a lot of movement really also contributes to lazy eating because I just can’t be bothered cooking when I get home. So I guess over all this year I will start with one thing at a time master it then move on to the next oh and moderation… think of me when your giving ya goodie out 😁 cheers

  77. January 3, 2016 / 8:22 pm

I have a biiiig fitness goal for this year. Walking the oxfam trail walker in April. I’m so unfit right now but somehow, in 3 months time, I’ll be walking 100km in under 24 hours. Eeeek! I’ve also got some goals around diet. I ate so poorly last year. I piled on weight and my health and skin started to suffer so badly. It’s time to get back on track and eat less chocolate and sugar and more veggies!

This year I’m ensuring I make time for myself to relax and recharge. I am organised with a planner and I’ll schedule me-time ahead of each month. I also need to make use of the great walkway near my house and go for walks! I’d love to be able to my progress with this amazing Fitbit. x

My wellness goal is to get moving, and control my portion sizes. I have started getting out for a few walks, but plan to join a local fitness group. I will control my portion sizes by only preparing enough for one meal at a time so I don’t continue snacking on the leftovers.

One of my getfit goals for 2016 is by the end of the year i aim to get me some abs, this is my goaal im going to work hard towards.

  81. January 3, 2016 / 8:15 pm

My wellness goals include planning meals more as I am forever asking myself what to take to work for lunch and then what to gave for tea!!! Trying a new recipe each week building up a list of quick and easy home cooked meals ! Another goal is going for a walk at the end of the day along the beach to unwind, relax and enjoy the fresh air

  83. January 3, 2016 / 8:13 pm

Drink water. Regardless of what I eat, water makes it better and makes me feel rested.

    January 3, 2016 / 8:11 pm

My wellness is goal for 2016 is to take more care about myself, running around after 3 children and being unwell quite a bit in 2015 sure has taken it’s toll on me and I have neglected my body but now it’s time for me to look after me. I have been looking at buying a Fitbit for awhile now and to win one would just give me that but more of a push to get out and excercise but also I need to be drinking more water and eating more fresh fruit and Veges but these are the little steps to get me in the right direction.

  85. Amy
    January 3, 2016 / 8:11 pm

My wellness plan for 2016 is to take more time for me. I already eat pretty well and exercise regularly, but Im a mum of 2 school aged kids and a full on pooch, a wife, a student, a business owner (plus I help my husband with his business)……I very rarely have enough time to take an hour thats mine, by myself, where my time is not being demanded by someone else. So my goal for 2016 is to diary out a couple of hours every week that I can do whatever I want, by myself, for my own sanity!

My wellness goal is to have a possitive thought about everyday. No matter how bad that day has been. There has to have een a small positive. Eg. My 5yo son has said something that has made me laugh no matter how silly it was.
Also to remember to eat breakfast everyday.

My health and wellness goals for 2016 are to complete a half marathon – running is something I struggle with and have all my life. Eat a more plant based diet by incorporating my fruits and veggies in my daily diet. Move my body, take up a new sport/hobbies possibly crossfit. Not be so hard on myself and live and appreciate every day ☺️

I started a new job this year that is way more physical than I thought it would be and I managed to get really run down. This year I am going to make sure I balance out the physical work load with getting more rest and not feeling guilty about it. That way I wont need to take time off work and I wont spend the majority of the year unwell!
All the best for saving your house deposit, its not as hard as it seems and it is much more rewarding to see the savings building up than it is to buy those sale items!

I have two resolutions this year.
    (1.) drink more water
(2.) work on my mental health, as I find when that suffers my physical health suffers too. This year is the year I better understand my mental illness and steps to living each day in a better, more fruitful way.

One of my wellness goals for 2016 is to cut down my sugar intake and boost my intake of good foods like greens . I find this is much easier for me when I am exercising regularly, as I crave nutrient dense foods when I have been working out 👍🏻

Enjoyed reading your new years resolutions and must say refreshing to be honest. Love the idea of focusing on just one goal a month, that’s what i will take on board. Jan for me will be focus on actively looking for a new job, something i will enjoy doing and even if not secured by month end my cv will be out there, network contacts aware and doors knocked on. Feb 2 weeks of leave so will focus on relaxation and beach time reading. Now to work on March.

My wellness goal are to focus on my excercising and eating plus looking out for my friends that I have made so far along my journey.

  96. January 3, 2016 / 7:54 pm

My focus this year is to set myself monthly goals for both fitness and eating habits. I’ve been tracking what I eat for a couple of months already and next week I’m back to my outdoor fitness group but I’d like to start walking on the other days . And maybe use that damn cross trainer that gives me the stink eye everyday. 😊 Happy New Year xxx Nat

My wellness goal is to continue getting healthy. I’ve lost 17 kgs so far and usually have given up by now. It feels different this time. I love your blog, posts and information! Happy New Year!! Xo 🙂

My goal is simply to move more. I know it makes me feel so much better

  99. Kate
    January 3, 2016 / 7:53 pm

My wellness goal is to get outside for walks more often. I sometimes feel too self conscious / anxious to get out and walk, but I also feel like it’s a bit silly, so I’m keen to challenge myself. No rules, just more than before.

  100. January 3, 2016 / 7:53 pm

As someone who also works from home, a few goals I have set for myself for the year are: more structure in sleeping patterns – bed before 11pm, rise before 8am. walk dogs daily, for my health and theirs. Eat more nourishing food and only when I feel truly hungry, boredom eating is a major habit of mine being home alone all day. Another is to make time weekly to be social with friends, preferably out of the house to prevent cabin fever. I also downloaded the head space app to learn meditation and mindfulness which I’m enjoying a lot. I want to grow into a more positive outlive and happy version of myself through 2016. So far so good. Oh, also gotta drink more water! We have a lo in common with our goals, must be a self employed thing 😉

Whilst I have goals that involve continuing my wellness journey, my main one for 2016, involves to chill more. I don’t mean do less, I mean to stop taking life so seriously and not get so wound up. Learn to just be, and enjoy what I am doing.

My goal is to figure out fully my food intolerances and make what I eat work for me. What I’ve figured out so far has given me a big boost of energy so I am excited to progress with this.
Very keen for a workshop in Dunedin please!

    January 3, 2016 / 7:51 pm

My wellness goal is to get back in touch with myself, and listen more to what my body wants and needs.

To move my body every day in a way that I enjoy. Be it stretching or walking in the sun.

To make small changes to my eating habits, and let myself have that tim tam if I really want it!

To feel my clothes fitting better and to be proud of that.

Lastly, to start trusting myself and the decisions I make, as I am the one who knows me best 🙂

  104. Debbie
    January 3, 2016 / 7:50 pm

My wellness goal is to take time for me so that I can be the best version of me not the version I think others want me to be and as part of this I will be entering an event (run, triathlon, biking) each quarter to stay accountable

    January 3, 2016 / 7:50 pm

Being a single dad And business owner it’s impossible to make time, but I am! And getting my son Owan fit too! Money is tight so I’d give him the Fitbit to help get him motivated to come running with me. He loves gadgets like boys do and is motivated by tracking progress!

    January 3, 2016 / 7:41 pm

Try to be more active so the Fitbit would be a great help 🙂 and also to eat more “good” food.

Moving around more and tidying is helping with activity and not buying the “bad” food means i can’t eat it !
Happy New Year and good luck with your goals.

Hi Megan! Firstly, you are amazing and inspire so many women to be and accept themselves!! Thank you!! My wellness goals are mostly health related! I have had 3 surgeries in my left Achilles’ tendon and am prepping for another one on the 21st of Jan, I have been in a bad head space with not being able to do all the things I love (sports/exercise/) I can’t even walk BUT I won’t let that stop me! I have gained 40 kilos in the past 2 years and want to make small changes like yourself to better my habits around my food choices! I think I would really love the FitBit, but wanted to say thank you for being awesome as well!! Happy 2016 and all the very best with your goals! Keep inspiring and being you! 😘❤️

Half an hour exercise every day!!! Seriously lol even I should be able to find a spare half an hour! For mind and body……small steps!!!

  113. January 3, 2016 / 7:40 pm

This year I’m going to try and be a little nicer to myself. I’m a single mum of twin two year old girls and while I feel incredibly lucky to have them as my focus I have really lost myself in the last few years. I’d love to get my fitness back and find some more balance.

  117. January 3, 2016 / 7:38 pm

Wow what an amazing blog! So real, so inspiring. Love it. My goal for 2016 is to be the fittest and strongest I’ve ever been. I want to do a 1/2 ironman at the end of the year and multiple trust longs throughout. I want my 1month old son to see his mum as a healthy inspiration. To achieve this I have come up with an exercise plan of x4 days per week which work around my son, my job and my partner. 2016 will be my year 🙂

  119. January 3, 2016 / 7:37 pm

Im a solo mum of three. Im sadly 114kgs I want to lose at least 30kgs. Im starting at the green prescription next week. I need to do this for my kids for our future. Also socialize more I actually have no real friends.

  120. January 3, 2016 / 7:36 pm

I love these resolutions! Especially the love yourself one. I’ve made a personal resolution to learn more about my own culture because i am sadly lacking in that respect. I also have plans to get more involved in making things, with one of them being bath bombs so if you like, I can make some and flick them your way of you like?

    January 3, 2016 / 7:35 pm

Great article – I love reading what others want to achieve in the year. I love that you are taking you time, that’s so important.

My main goal this year is to start taking care of my body. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos disease and have been neglecting my body so this year I am making an effort to exercise and eat healthier. I’ve started by borrowing a friends Fitbit to motivate me to exercise and am eating more healthy foods which make me feel good – inside and out.

  122. January 3, 2016 / 7:35 pm

This year I have promised myself that I will look after myself just as much as I do my children! It is so easy to forget about your own nutrition, physical activity and health when you are so preoccupied with little people and sleep deprived. No more leftover crusts and spoonfuls of Pasta! Breastfeeding is taking it’s toll on my physical wellbeing and I need to look after myself or I am no good to anyone!

    January 3, 2016 / 7:34 pm

Omg this would be amazing. 2015 is the year I turned my health around and 2016 I want to smash some fitness goals. I want to be able to do 10 pull ups. Strong is sexy!

  124. Hayley
    January 3, 2016 / 7:33 pm

I have had a few health issues in the last year and turned forty in September. I am still struggling with a lot of pain especially in my hands and back. My resolution for this year for wellness is to become physically stronger! I am an adult student (a- average) and a Mum of three, my well being tends to be last in the line, so I think making the resolution to strengthen my body will do more for me than just make me physically strong.

My wellness goal is more of a fit and healthy mindset more than a body or exercise based goal
I want to enjoy my work, and my leisure – so this means Saving more to experience more- more of the world

  126. January 3, 2016 / 7:32 pm

I just have to learn how to accept who I am and not become negative. I will walk more, love more, be kind more, appreciate more……just do and be more of everything. Live life, love life and appreciate life

I don’t like making resolutions, I think we put enough pressure on oursleves as mums / wives / partners / daughters without adding to that. I want to sit down each month and make realistic goals that I can achieve or work towards achieving, that improve my mental health, physical health, relationship health. I want to have more fun, more laughter and more time for me. I am super keen to try yoga but it’s very much outside my comfort zone, so that might be my first challenge!

My wellness focus this year is water! I really struggle but have found new ways to encourage the good habit 🙂

My goals this year include adding more fitness to my daily grind. I’ve got a gym membership I barely use as my kid HATES the creche and I was having super high HR readings so I’d have to stop and get off machines constantly..kinda counter productive 😂I love to walk but feel I’m not getting anywhere and as luck would have it I’m always getting rained on. We are working with a lovely lady at Kiwibank to get on top of our financial situation – first meeting to setup a savings account was today…I know 30 somethings with money in the bank but not a legit savings account lol
I am also saying no to jobs that don’t float my boat this year…I miss out on most weekends in Summer and as much as I love Weddings I love time with the kids and my partner more! Ultimately I just want to be happier about the choices I’m making all round and remember to live a life that fills my heart! I hope to see you again for a non sugary..non processed..dairy free..gluten free treat 😂

This year I want to spend more time doing the things I love instead of wasting the days away, to focus on me and my family and enjoy our time together 😊

Trying to keep it simple so its doable, leaving out potatoes, kumaras and white rice which will help with my sugars levels. And walk abit more everydAy whether it’s sunny, windy or rainy. More action and less excuses

  135. January 3, 2016 / 7:29 pm

Assuming this comp is open to Au residents aswell…. My wellness goal is to get more healthy regardless of size, weight or shape and to become more self confident in public places!!

  136. January 3, 2016 / 7:29 pm

Already dealt with mental wellness at the end of last year by resigning from one of my jobs. Health wise, doing more walking with deliveries

My goal this year is to only eat food that my grandad ate. No processed at all. And to get to a body shape that I am happy with and rock it!
To be confident in myself and not to seek others approval. I am me and i need to be happy with that.

My wellness goal is to make sure I take a conscious decision on clean eating. I work full time so I go for the easy and closest option and sometimes it’s the worst but I do it anyway. I’m a mum so out my son first and make sure he has the best of everything and that includes food. I’ve also been made redundant so I’m on the lookout for a new job and setting new career goals for myself to be home with my family more 😀👍 Thank you for all your inspiration

I’d love to shed a few KGS but more so I’d love to eat more healthily! I want to swap my soda for water and up the tempo and do some exercise everyday. Day three and going strong!

My wellness goal is to eat less processed food, and more ‘real’ food. I’ve had a massive clean out of my kitchen fridge and pantry, and have passed on chips, chocolate, fizzy drinks and biscuits, and replaced them with fresh or frozen fruit and healthy cuts of meat and veg. Also getting back into swimming as it is the perfect mental release! Bought some new togs and goggles in boxing day sales. Tried them out for the first time today!

  143. January 3, 2016 / 7:25 pm

My goal is better health and wellness, which I know is a bit vague but in the past I have committed to an event, trained hard, completed the event, and then nothing… so I want better balance!

Goals for 2016, look after myself health food and fitness wise. Learn the art of self love which is my hardest lesson to date. This will be the year I master the skill of that.x

Trying to delve into mindfulness and see if helps my mood/anxiety. Eat more healthily and exercise more, especially outside with the kids:)

I want to keep working on me . . . Accepting me for who i am . . . No more negativity – i’d never speak to a friend how i speak to myself!!! I’m getting there slowly!!!!!

  147. January 3, 2016 / 7:23 pm

My wellness goal, to follow Dita Von Teeses lead and swap my usual workouts for classes such as Pilates, Yoga and Spin. I loathe the gym and get so bored so I’m hoping group classes will keep me more entertained and motivated.

My wellness goal is just that…to focus more on my own wellness as opposed to others. I spend a lot of time looking out for others wellbeing and mine is often sacrificed because of it..which is fine sometimes ..but not all the time. So I’ll be taking a leaf out of your book and saying no more as giving too much of myself can be detrimental to my wellness.

You’ve got to make sure your cup is full before you can fill anyone elses, right? Congratulations Ashleigh, you’re the winner of the FitBit Charge HR – keep an eye out for an email from me x

This year I am going to continue to tackle my insecurities head on, make the most of feeling well, dress up more, back myself more. I can’t wait to see what sort of year it is! Happy New Year to you Meagan, I’d also like to hear about your workshops. 🙂

Some awesome goals Rachel! Dressing up more sounds fun, I think I need to do that too. Perhaps for my workshops hehe – stay tuned for more info…

I never do New Years resolutions – for a number of reasons of valid and fake reasons! But this year I’m feeling very compelled to go through the resolution process! And knowing I’ll never be a traditional resolution maker your post is very inspiring! I see some similarities in our goals too (health, money and self love!) I wish you every success and look forward to following your journey in 2016 😊 x

    • January 3, 2016 / 11:11 am

I often make them and forget about them so this year breaking it down to monthly goals is going to be much more achievable I think. I hope you have a great year! x

  153. January 1, 2016 / 8:11 pm

This year I want to continue paying off my debt – at this rate it’ll be gone by March (except my student loan) and then start saving an emergency fund! I’m on track for that which is sooo exciting. I’m also joining a new gym, to one that has classes and a pool because I’ve got bored with my normal workouts I’ve been doing for a couple of years.

    • January 1, 2016 / 9:03 pm

Hurray, paying off debt is SO exciting! It’s really nice not to have it looming. And hurray for new gym! I might have to find one with a good pool after my knee surgery

  154. January 1, 2016 / 4:05 pm

The new year really snuck up on my and I haven’t thought too much about goals. But I think my main priority for the year is looking after my health (both mental and physical) through self love, nourishing food and exercise!

    • January 1, 2016 / 5:57 pm

I think that sounds great Loz – making yourself a priority is so important!
