Nailed It! How to remove glitter polish

One of the most annoying things about glitter polish (and in fact, most textured polishes) is how difficult it is to remove. I hear people complaining about this all the time, so I thought I’d put together a quick tutorial to show you how to remove glitter polish with ease!

How to remove glitter polishThanks to my lovely hand model Cassie, who is wearing Maybelline New York Color Show Seqiuins Nail Lacquer in Sea-quins.

Step one: Gather the essentials

Gather the essentials

You’ll need:

  • Acetone-based nail polish remover
  • Make-up removal pads/cotton balls
  • Tinfoil

 1. Cut your tinfoil in to small squares (about 3″), and cut your make-up removal pads in half if you’re using them. Place the make-up removal pads in the centre of the tinfoil, like so. If you can’t be bothered faffing about with this stuff, you can get pre-made professional quality removal foils here.

 2. One nail at a time, soak your make-up removal pad with nail polish remover and place it over the nail surface. Wrap your entire finger securely with tinfoil.

 3. Continue until all of your fingers are covered. Cassie had already removed the polish on one nail, so I didn’t bother wrapping that one. Chill out for 15 minutes, while the nail polish remover goes to work.

 4. By now, you should be able to slide the tinfoil off your finger and have a clean nail. If there is a little bit of polish on there, you can use the rounded end of a cuticle pusher to help remove it. Be careful not to scrape against the natural nail. If there is still a lot of polish on there, you have either not used enough nail polish remover or you need to leave it a little while longer. Pop your nail back inside the tinfoil and give it a a couple more minutes.

 5. By now your nails should be clean! Wash your hands to remove any glitter debris and apply a good moisturiser to rehydrate after the nail polish remover has stripped away some of moisture in your hands – I recommend OPI’s Avojuice. Apply cuticle oil regularly to leave your cuticles in tip top shape.

Easy, right? I hope you found this tutorial helpful!
