Let’s Be Mermaids

I’ve been a fat babe for a long time, so trust me when I say that there are a lot of terrible plus size graphic tees out there. Like, so many – in the most nana designs or random slogans. Needless to say, I’ve never really worn graphic tees until recently. But now our favourite plus size designers have embraced this casual wardrobe staple and plus size graphic tees have gone from drab to fab.

Australian label Ruby & Lilli is all about the graphic tees, in sizes XS to 6X (that’s AU8 to 28 for the new players). Their designs are cute and catchy (I mean, Let’s Be Mermaids, who wouldn’t love that!?), and their tees are super soft and comfortable.

Mermaid for life

I made my first order with Ruby & Lilli recently, which took a week to arrive (perfect timing – it arrived on the day I got back from holiday!) and shipping was AUD $20 to New Zealand (which is pretty reasonable – especially if you combine your order with a friend and split the delivery cost!). I got three tees (one was a gift from the Ruby & Lilli team – this one in fact!) and they’re all made from a super soft comfy stretch cotton blend fabric with a cute print. The size I ordered (4X or AU/NZ24) was the perfect fit and very comfortable (although my boobs stretch the print a little, no big deal). Exactly how I want my t shirts to fit!

I’m wearing it tucked into a high waisted midi skirt today, but I can definitely see myself wearing these tees with jeans as well. Perfect for that casual style!

You can check out Ruby & Lilli’s range of tees here (including some that are still on sale – get in quick!). Their new season stock has just come online so make sure you nab your faves before your size sells out!

If you were designing your own tee, what would it look like and what would it say?

oh my gawd, the terrible graphic.novelty tees for plus can just be atrocious! I was approached a while back for a sponsored post and I had to turn the brand down because all it was all terrible tees bedazzled with phrases and tacky designs!

But “let’s be mermaids” in silver foil?!…..GIMME!

I love this colour on you 🙂 I’ve only owned one slogan tee and it was from Lorna Jane, and it was something like “Love dance run” etc etc, just a lot of words. That was about 8 years ago now but I loved it when I first got it 🙂 If I was designing a tee today, it would say “Be awesome” 🙂

“Be awesome.” I like that – simple but effective!

It’s not original but one t-shirt slogan that always made me laugh was ‘I had a nightmare I was brunette’. Good for when someone makes a blonde joke 🙂
