Kmart Maxi Dresses

Kmart Plus Size Alexa Maxi Dress Jersey Floral

I’m going to come right out and say it: yes, I am as obsessed with Kmart as the next gal. They have amazing (affordable) homewares that I would fill my home with if I had the chance. And did you know that they have a great plus size clothing range (size 18-26) called Alexia? The team at Kmart invited me in to check out their new season range, and that’s where I found this maxi dress – you’ll never guess how much it cost.

It cost $22. Yep, in a world where we are used to paying around $110 for a plus size maxi dress (at least, that’s the situation in New Zealand), I could buy FIVE dresses! Oh thank you, my Kmart saviours.

I’d wear this outfit to a beach wedding, out for drinks or to a BBQ. The keyhole detail at the front and back makes this a bit more dressy and it’s great for the evening because it’s a slightly thicker jersey fabric that will keep you reasonably warm when the sun goes down.

To finish this outfit I grabbed a pair of black beachwear sandals for $12 (which this dress covers but you can see on me here) and a handbag for $25.

For a more casual look, I also got this striped maxi (also for $22). It’s more suited for everyday wear and dressing down – perfect for the beach, picking up the kids from school and mooching about the house (or finishing your Christmas shopping).

A pair of canvas shoes ($4.50), a hat from the men’s section for $10 (top tip – if you’ve got a bigger hat check out the men’s section – they often allow for larger head sizes and have a great range of styles!), with my Sun Jellies tote from Two Lippy Ladies, and this was the perfect outfit for a wander through the ferns.

Kmart has a really great selection of both straight size and plus size maxi dresses, so regardless of your size, so whether you’re a size 10 or a size 26 you can be cool and comfy this summer without splashing out a lot of cash. There are a couple of other styles I am eyeing up that weren’t available at my local store, so I’ll be popping in to get those next time I’m near another Kmart. I already know I’m going to be getting a lot of wear out of these!

Oooh i will have to go back to KMart in Porirua and try and figure out where their plus size section is. I used to buy a few bits and bobs there, but since they did the big renovation I haven’t been able to find the plus size clothing at all and gave up in frustration. Might be worth a bit more frustration to look for these dresses – Im actually on the hunt for a maxi dress for a wedding and this might just do the trick cos i don’t really want to order an expensive one from overseas.

It can be hard to find sometimes, but the plus size brand is called Alexa. Good luck hun! Let me know how you get on, I might have some other ideas x

I spend so much time/money at Kmart. It’s the best place to go to get cheaper but still nice clothes. I have a maxi dress from there that’s just like a big sheet, but when you tie it around the waist it’s so flattering. 🙂 I absolutely love your floral one though!!!

I have a Kmart Maxi dress I got 3 years ago and I get lovely comments every time I wear it. Its just plain black but is tiered. So comfortable and very forgiving of the bumps and lumps : ) Love that floral one. They look great on you Megan! AND only $22……I may have to go shopping.

I wore a maxi dress last night to dinner. I got it ages ago from New Look’s boutique section in the UK on special at 10 pounds ($20). It was a size 16 and I’m normally a 20-22 and it fitted me perfectly! Loved it!
It’s reignited my love for maxis and I think I’ll be popping into Kmart to find myself a few. I get major static so I just have to be careful that it’s the right material.
You look stunning in your maxis and I hope you’ll wear one to brunch this weekend 🙂

LOVE these on you Megan! I grabbed the floral maxi the other day as well, it’s the perfect throw on in a minute and look like a million bucks dress!
I also grabbed some other goodies from the Alexia range because it’s so great for plus sized babes like us!

Thanks Laura! I love how easy these are to wear, and isn’t the Alexia range great?

These look great! I saw some when I was last there but I was on a very specific mission so i didn’t have time to check them out. I must get there soon though.

Love love love Kmart! My most recent purchase of 2x tea length cut out dresses was less than $40!!! As a tall plus size fan its so rewarding to find dresses which hit my knees! Now if they sold womens shoes up to size 13, all my dreams would come true 🙂

    • November 26, 2015 / 8:41 pm

Woohoo, love a good bargain! I’m not much help with shoes because my feet are a standard 8-9, but did you see this guest post from last year about shoes for bigger feet??

They look great on you x I have a thing for stripes

    • November 26, 2015 / 8:40 pm

Thanks Lisa! I love my stripes as well 😀
