How to tie a scarf

I don’t wear a lot of accessories – I like to keep things simple and most of the time I just wear stud earrings and a watch. When it’s a bit chilly or I want to add a pop of colour to my outfit, I go for scarves. My go to is one of the many infinity loop scarves I have (my favourite at the moment is this orange one from Farmers) – it’s so easy to throw on and go, as well as being super soft. However, I do have quite a few flat scarves, so I thought I’d share three different ways to tie a scarf.

HOW TO TIE A LOOP SCARF

Don’t have a snood or loop scarf? It’s easy to tie your own!

1. Take a long flat scarf – if it’s long enough, you will be able to double the loop over for a thicker, snugglier fit (like I have with my loop scarf)

2/3. Tie a reef knot in the ends and slip the loop over your head

HOW TO TIE A DRAPE SCARF

You can wear this with the ends hanging at the front or turn it around to have them hanging down your back – this is ideal if your scarf is especially long

1. Take a long, wide flat scarf

2. Put around the back of your neck, with one third of the length on one side and two thirds on the other

3. Cross the longer end of the scarf over the shorter, and wrap around the back of your neck to fall down the other side

HOW TO TIE A SCARF LIKE A TIE

This is tied in the same way as a neck tie and is perfect for with collared shirts or something with a high neckline.

1. Take an extra long flat scarf and drape the scarf around your neck, positioning it so that one side is roughly half the length of the other. The thicker your fabric, the bulkier the knot will be

2. Cross the long end of the scarf over the short end

3. Bring it around and back under the short end

4. Cross the long end of the scarf over the short end once more, and leave this quite loose as you will need to pass the end of the scarf down through this layer soon

5. Take the longer end of the scarf in your hand and feed it under and through the loop around your neck, then slip it through the front of the knot you created

6. Pull the long end of the scarf all the way through the knot. Hold the short end of the scarf in one hand and slide the knot up to tighten the scarf around your neck

What kind of scarf do you wear and how do you tie it?

While I love the multitude of ways to scarf, I ALWAYS end up buying infinity scarves.

Loving the loop scarf idea, and yes, I can’t eat with a scarf on. It’s weird but I have to take it off. :v

A gal after my own heart! That’s why I like loop scarves as well, nothing worse than dunking your scarf in your soup
