I’ve been looking longingly at Peter Alexander’s pyjamas for quite some time now, wishing they did plus sizes. I know I’m not alone, a few of you have messaged me saying the same thing! I’m sure you’ll be as excited as I am to hear about the launch of Peter Alexander Plus! Yup, that’s right – probably the most popular name when it comes to PJs has ventured in to plus and I think that’s worth celebrating.
The collection is reminiscent of the classic Peter Alexander designs with checks, stripes, pastels and the cute dachshund Penny that is synonymous with the Peter Alexander brand. You can choose from pyjama tops, pyjama pants, sleep tees, slinky nighties and even snuggle up in a robe on a chilly night. They don’t have the same bold prints and cute designs (like the Vintage Kellogg’s collection) yet, but I’m hoping that the Peter Alexander Plus range proves so successful that they decide to make future collections available in all of their sizes!
The team at Peter Alexander sent me a couple of pairs of pyjamas to try out and I’m loving them both – the sweater and leggings are a perfect match, and oh so snuggly. I love the cuffs on the leggings because they mean that they don’t ride up (that means no cold legs!). The sleep tee (below) is really cosy as well, and a really versatile option – you can wear it by itself if you live somewhere with a milder winter (I’m looking at some of you Aussie babes here!) or you can wear it with PJ pants for extra warmth. Both sets of pyjamas are soft, comfortable and really great quality – just what you want in something you’re getting cosy in.
The sizing of the new Peter Alexander Plus range is +1 (16-18), +2 (20-22) and +3 (24-26), and all three of the pieces I got are in the size 3+. Going by their size chart I was a bit skeptical as to whether they’d fit – especially the leggings – because I’m bigger than the measurements they’ve stated, but the PA PJs have a relaxed fit (because relaxed is where it’s at when it comes to pyjamas, right guys?) so they are a great fit! As with other clothing it does depend on the style and fabric of the PJs – flannel doesn’t have a lot of stretch but the jersey does, so if you’re on the bigger end of measurements you might need to take that in to account. You’ll also be happy to hear that the length of the pyjama pants doesn’t change between sizes, so no need to roll up the bottoms of your pants (yes, I’ve actually had to do that before). They’ve got a really comprehensive size chart, so it’s easy to figure out which size will be the best fit.
I’m super excited that Peter Alexander has launched their range of plus size sleepwear because that means I’m going to be snuggly and warm this winter – just imagine curling up beside a roaring fire with a book in these!

If I was to go with *need* it would be the dressing gown because I don’t have one and how great to be able to rock that instead of running starkers from the bathroom on cold mornings 😉 Seriously though it would be great to lounge around on lazy Sunday mornings, or cold winter nights when I’m straight into PJs when I walk in the door.

I was so excited when I saw this!! I’ve been waiting for so long for PA to cater for us plus ladies and he’s definitely come with the goods in the first release! It’s hard to choose a favourite (as i adore the lace bust nightie) but i love the Tartan Flannelette Back Sleep Tee, it just screams cosy nights on the couch watching feel good movies with the hubby.

For soooo many years I would wander into PA with my “slim” friends and stare longingly at the cute, comfy sleep sets… quietly jealous because THEY could fit into them while I was turfed out in oversize men’s tees and sweat pants, doomed for an ugly sleep…. this news has excited me no end, I am ecstatic! I would love to try the P.A. PLUS GREY CHECK FLANNELETTE NIGHTSHIRT. It’s hard to find a medium when it come to what to wear to bed as I get irritated when I get hot feet but freeze on top when I kick the blankets off my feet. It’s good to know that a company is actually listening to its customers, and that not all of us are straight sizes! I’m obsessed with roses, I grow them, I have a tattoo of them, that I’d love the Rose PJ pants, I don’t think I’d get out of them, they’d be my go to pants when I got home all the time, lol.

I was so excited at the thought of finally being able to get nightwear that’s quality, lasts and that isn’t embarrassing to wear in front of other people, that I went into the central Wellington store today to check out the sizing. But they’re not carrying the plus-size range as the store’s too small. I have to say that I’m a bit offended that they’re giving total priority to straight sizes, and have no space for plus-sizes. Even carrying a couple of samples in stretch and non-stretch designs that you could try on for size would be helpful. I’ll have to order a few things and chance it, so I was wondering what the fit’s like on the fab sleep tee you’re modelling?
Oh man, that really sucks Kylie! I’ll make sure to pass your feedback on to the PA team because I think it is really important to have all sizes in store. The sleep tee is a comfy fit on me – there is no stretch in the flannelette part (aka the back) but the grey part (aka the front) is stretchy jersey fabric so if you’ve got big boobs and a belly like I do then it’s a comfortable fit. I’m a bit bigger than the size on the chart and the 3+ is still a good fit on me.
Thanks for both the info and for taking the issue up with the PA team Meagan. I don’t have your bust; so I’m a 1+ in the bust, 3+ in the hips and off the scale in the waist! I have just done what I always do, take account of the fabric, shape and fit on the models and hope for the best. Have ordered a couple of stretch pieces in cotton to take advantage of the 15% off and free postage this weekend. Looking forward to PA branching out into some darker and richer tones next time, I think I’ve had a lifetime’s worth of ‘congratulations, it’s a girl!’ pink and ‘congratulations, it’s a boy!’ blue. Would love a post on natural fabrics at some stage. The range of merino available in NZ is so good now, it really does highlight how hard it is to get light cotton and linen, especially in woven fabrics, for summer. Yours clothing is one of the few places that carries a few pieces.

I’m all about cozy and comfy so this is mega exciting. I’d love to slip into the sweater and grey marle leggings in a +1… I don’t know if I’d ever get out of them again, though! Just the though makes me want to bake some cookies and queue up a movie marathon.

This is the most exciting news I’ve had today! I got given a PA gift card a few years ago by a dear friend of mine and I could only buy a candle (bloody nice candle though!!) So combining a sweet scent with the floral lace bust slinky and the electric blanket sounds like a perfect night in 🙂
I don’t like having my legs or feet enclosed when I’m sleeping, and I love a snit of stretch and give in the fabric as I know I toss and turn a lot! The first set I’d be getting is the tartan flannelette back night dress – it looks so snuggly and has the added flannelette bonus – flannelette being of my most favourite things!!! Of course I’d probably slip into the floral lace bust slinky number when I want to feel sexy!

I used to Only wear PA Pj’s, but they have been too small the last couple of years (maybe more than than 😱) and I live in my pj’s, I pretty much wouldn’t put on real clothes unless I intend to leave the house! Haha. Totes the roses pant and raglan sweater. I saw them on release day and they are already on my wishlist. Xxxx

These are fun but I do wish they’d just make their 15 best selling garments or prints in plus size, just because I’m fat doesn’t mean I magically have different tastes to straight sized ladies! That said, to me the most fun print is the Multi Roses Pant and I love the Jersey Raglan Sweater you are wearing 🙂
Hey Amy, PA mentioned on their insta that basically this is a trial (as their first foray into plus) to see how it will sell. They have upcoming collections in spring & summer/Christmas, which like this current range, will use the best prints from the main collection. The response has been pretty great so far so I think we can expect to see more good things from them in the future.

Well this is excellent! I won a pyjama competition last year at my work (came in horn rims and rollers nanna extravaganza) and won a $100 Peter Alexander gift voucher which I mourned giving away to a friend who could avail of their pretty wares. The sadness!

I love these. I wear pjs that look like they could be clothes, eg black pants and sleep top. Good thing too, I’ve had to wear them to work one fateful day when I forgot my change of clothes after the gym!

I signed up earliwr today and was just checking your posts on FB and thought wow. I’d be interested in the P.A. Plus Floral Lace Bust Slinky in a 2+. I have actually recently dropped sizes in a mad bid to get healthy to have a baby and to improve my health so I am guessing that this size will be correct as the last thing I brought a month or 2 ago was that size.

Love the post Meagan. I used to be a medium at PA but then kids came along and my body changed and the soft, unstretchy pj pants were just not a good fit (in any size) for my body so I had to bid farewell to PA 🙁
got an email about the new range and was super happy! My son is just a month old and I’m even more “soft” (hehe!) than before so I’d love to try some pjs that will be comfy and not restricting.
