First Look: Chocolat SS17

New Zealand plus size designer clothing SS17 Chocolat

I always get really excited when Chocolat releases their lookbooks, because this New Zealand label has pieces that wow me season after season. You’ve seen me wearing pieces from them before (take a look here and here if you need a reminder) and loved them, so I thought I’d share a few of my favourite pieces from the latest collection – let me know what you’re loving!

New Zealand plus size designer clothing SS17 Chocolat // Sketchbook Atom Tee, Stripe Slouch Pant and Asahi Dress

It will come as no surprise that my first picks from the range are black and white, right? I love black and white because it’s easy to mix and match with everything else in my wardrobe or brighten up with colour. Those slouch pants look especially comfy, and you know I’m all about comfy right?

Sketchbook Atom Tee $239 | Stripe Slouch Pant $299 | Asahi Dress $310

New Zealand plus size designer clothing SS17 Chocolat // Oriental Beauty Kimono and Dressy Leggings

Kimonos are my go to in summer for dressing up a simple outfit, and this one is absolutely gorgeous. I love the print on the back of this and think it will be perfect as an evening coverup if you’re heading along to a BBQ or if you’re wanting to make your outfit look a bit dressier during the day but don’t want to wear heavy layers.

Oriental Beauty Kimono $327 | Dressy Leggings $199

New Zealand plus size designer clothing SS17 Chocolat // Xita Sundress, Sketchbook Bliss Tunic and Dressy Leggings

I got my nails done today, black with fine white detail. I love how fresh it looks, and it’s inspiring me to bring more white into my wardrobe for summer. I’m not ready to go all out white yet, but pieces with white detail are really calling out to me – especially the beautiful embroidery on that sundress!

Xita Sundress $397 | Sketchbook Bliss Tunic | Dressy Leggings $199

New Zealand plus size designer clothing SS17 Chocolat // Elemental Dress and Daydreamer Dress

Chocolat always has gorgeous prints, and their exclusive Elemental print is in both black and white this summer. I’m kind of torn, because you know I love black, but that white is so fresh and perfect for hot weather! I’m also obsessed with this gorgeous yellow dress – this photo absolutely does not do it justice! How amazing would it be on a hot summers day?

Elemental Dress $347 | Daydreamer Dress $447

New Zealand plus size designer clothing SS17 Chocolat // Stripe Luna Dress, Havana Crop Top and Staple Skirt

You didn’t think I could wrap this up without including a striped dress, did you? I really love how nice and easy this is, just throw it on with a pair of crisp white sneakers for a casual daytime look, or a pair of sandals to take you into the evening. Drape, fabric and texture is something that I’m really starting to pay more attention to in my wardrobe, not only do I want my clothes to be comfortable, I also want to make sure they sit nicely and look interesting. The way the fabric on these Chocolat pieces drapes and folds? Mission achieved!

Stripe Luna Dress, $327 | Havana Crop Top $193 | Staple Skirt $327

New Zealand plus size designer clothing SS17 Chocolat // Elemental Havana Crop Top, Pilgrim Pant, Mesh Allegra Top, Stripe Zoe Short

I’m sure you will have noticed if you’ve been following my fashion journey for a while, but I’ve started really embracing shorts in summer. These pairs take it to the next level with something a little more grown up, a little less fitted, but still cool and comfy.

Elemental Havana Crop Top $243 | Pilgrim Pant $299 | Mesh Allegra Top | Stripe Zoe Short

Honestly, I could go on and on about this range, there are so many pieces I love – check out the full lookbook here. I think it’s great that there are high end designer brands here in New Zealand (here in Auckland in fact – I’ve been to their factory and seen some of their clothes being made) designing such great clothes, in plus sizes. If you’ve never shopped with Chocolat before, they do sizes 10-26 and you can find them at these Australian and New Zealand stockists. They are an ethically made designer label and their prices reflect that, however they do have an outlet store – I’ll tell you more about that next week. For now, let’s just say that I’ve got a couple of pieces I’m eyeing up and I can’t wait to head in and try them on!

Do any of these pieces catch your eye?
Let me know your favourite below!

I LOVED Chocolat when Jane Maybe (sorry might have that spelled incorrectly) was designing. Dresses were so great, using cotton and great prints and fit like a dream. Now, while the items above look great, the fit is terrible and not at all true to sizing. So weird. I also hate how they use polyester A LOT and cotton hardly ever. For the price, they have done down hill so much. I was in the store the other day and there was so much of that stretchy poly layering stuff. Bring back the 50’s dresses and the stuff accommodating larger busts and hips!

I ADORE chocolat! Both the label and the food.
That Luna dress looks like a bit of me, and I love the shapes and textural variety. All my Chocolat pieces are wardrobe winners and last season after season. I’m such a fan.

First year ever that never be of it has grabbed me. Is it the model or the clothes? I’m not sure. It’s just looking quite old fashioned like a ezibuy catalogue.

    Hmmmmm.

Did you check out the full lookbook? This are the pieces I loved most but there are heaps of other there 😃 If you want to see the pieces on a different model, have a look at some of the new season stuff at Zebrano – it’s not all there yet but there’s some.
