Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Stripes: Jocelyn

I have to be honest and admit that I’m probably one of the few plus-size bloggers who haven’t been fat shamed. I’m sure my day is coming (because lets face it, there are a lot of idiots out there), so I have some swear words and hand gestures prepared. It’s pretty sad that I’m preparing myself for nasty comments, but we all know it happens when you’re fat.

That’s not to say I’ve never had any negative experiences. School was a bitch! I was picked on because I was overweight, then throw in the crazy curly hair, ugly-arse glasses, being short, I’d just moved from a private school, and I lived in a Christian community… boom! I was fodder for the bullies.

I gave up subjects I loved to avoid the nasties, and left school at 16 to get out of that environment. I never retaliated because back then you were told “just ignore them and they’ll leave you alone”. That’s a load of crap! I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to learn self-worth and to stand up for myself. I’m sad to think what may have been if I’d learned that lesson earlier or if kids had been more accepting.

I find it hard describing my style. I’m a fan of layering, whether it’s a very feminine and floaty outfit or something more tailored. I wear every colour except orange but also love rocking monochrome. I prefer good quality pieces, *cough* expensive *cough*, and I just can’t say no to gorgeous handbags and fab shoes.

Inspiration comes from all over… other bloggers, style websites, magazines, pinterest, people watching, and window shopping! I don’t have any rules. If it makes me feel good, I wear it.

Thanks to the gorgeous Meagan for letting me be a part of Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Stripes. I really don’t need an excuse to dress up these days and have my photo taken, especially if it’s encouraging body positivity. Any project that shares plus-size girls in fabulous fashion and hopefully inspires curvy women not to hide themselves away gets my big tick!
