House of Boom

Ethical plus size fashion made in New Zealand by House of Boom

There’s a stylish new kid in town, and it’s House of Boom. Wellington-based Joanna McLeod has launched an ethically produced plus size clothing range in size 16-30  and this is definitely something you need to have on your radar.

Like many of us, Joanna was frustrated by a lack of ethical clothing options in larger sizes. Rather than just bemoaning the lack of options, she took action, and House of Boom was born. She wanted the pieces to be comfortable, to be made from cotton, and brightly coloured. Pockets were also essential – apparently an early idea for the shop name was “THANKS, IT HAS POCKETS!” which, let’s be honest, is always an appropriate response when you are wearing something that has actual functional pockets. Rebel Wilson x Angels at Zebrano

Rebel Wilson x Angels at Zebrano.

I always find myself getting a wee bit jealous when cool new lines of clothing are released overseas and they are hard (if not impossible) to access in New Zealand. One such line has been the Rebel Wilson x Angels range, which launched in mid-2017, and I’m really excited to share that it’s now not only available in New Zealand but it’s in store – you can actually try it on. This is a BIG deal, and I’m really excited that Zebrano are now stocking this line. I headed in store to check out the range (and try it on, of course), and report back to you on what I think of it. Firefly by Rachel Harrison

NZ plus size fashion | Firefly by Rachel Harrison

One day I got a message on my Facebook page from a woman named Rachel saying that her and her partner were starting up a New Zealand made plus size fashion label, and wondering if I’d be able to try on a size 26 sample to see how it fit. I’m always keen to support local designers as I’d love to see a wider range of options available in plus sizes, so of course I said yes. We met up for coffee and I tried on the shirt in question … and I didn’t want to take it off! View Post
