My name is Cassie. I’m 23, a model, a make-up enthusiast, a fashion lover and I’m fat. Fat and proud, as the saying goes. I have been following the body positive movement for a couple of years now and have never looked back.
I wanted to get involved in this project because I feel it is an excellent opportunity to bring body positivity to New Zealand in a big way. A way to show women that you really don’t need to listen to the fashion police. There is such a stigma attached to being fat – I have personally experienced a lot of discrimination due to my size, and this needs to stop. By showcasing confident, well adjusted women rocking out in their own skin hopefully we can inspire others to drop the stigma (be it self inflicted or otherwise) and embrace the bodies we have.
As you already know, Cassie is one of my favourite models to work with. She’s also one of my best friends, and one of the women who inspired me to begin my journey to self love and body positivity.
When I started this project, I made a list of all of the things that fat women are told not to wear. Cassie took one look at it and said, “That’s my whole wardrobe.” This is one of the reasons that she inspires me – Cassie wears whatever makes her feel awesome, whenever she wants.
