My Bedroom Makeover

Meagan Kerr's room tour and bedroom makeover on a budget

As you know, I had surgery earlier in the year and during my recovery I’ve spent an awfully large amount of time in bed. It’s made me realise how much I need my bedroom to be my sanctuary and after many hours spent in bed staring at my surroundings (and watching home renovation shows on HGTV), I felt like our room wasn’t really cutting it. The bed was uncomfortable; our furniture and soft furnishings were badly mismatched, having been collected over the last 18 years since I moved out of home; and it just wasn’t the cosy, relaxing haven that I wanted it to be. And so, I started planning some changes. I’m not in a position to make my room bigger or to paint it (yet), and my budget is pretty tight, but making a few little tweaks to make it a nicer place to relax and unwind is definitely something I wanted to do. Time for a bedroom makeover – watch my video to see the before and after, then read on for a little bit more on the pieces I picked out (plus your chance to make over your own room).

THE BED

Our old bed had some broken springs and was absolutely horrible to sleep on. There was no question, it was time for a new bed. My mates at Sleepyhead came on board with a new bed plus some of their bedding essentialsmattress and pillow protectors, pillows and duvet inner. I’ve been using their mattress protector and pillows for a few years now (trust me when I say their pillows have been an absolute game changer when it comes to how comfy my sleep is!) but the duvet inner is a new addition and holy moly is it cosy! In case you were wondering, I have this pillow (actually, I have two because they’re so dang comfy) and Doug has this one, and we use the winter weight duvet. I’m going to write a whole post about the bed we chose and why, and I’ll have some goodies from Sleepyhead to give away, so stay tuned for that this weekend check that out here.

I haven’t had a headboard since I was a child, but I’ve been lusting after padded headboards for a long time. Problem was, they were always way out of my budget. I found one for $800 and considering my budget for my whole room revamp was $1,000 I figured it just wasn’t going to happen. I decided I was going to make my own, and then quickly realised that I’m both lazy AF and lacking the space/know how/tools to DIY the kind of thing I wanted. Luckily for me, a search on Trade Me turned up the exact thing I was looking at for a fraction of the cost I’d seen other places! This isn’t just a one off find either, Elite Products make and sell them on the regular, in a bunch of different sizes and colours. They even delivered it to my door, which was a life saver.

When it comes to bedding I love white on white but it’s just not that practical. I can’t tell you the amount of times when I’ve spotted bike grease on Doug’s leg after he’s sat on the bed, or I’ve spilled my tea or dropped a piece of chocolate (I know eating and drinking in bed is frowned upon, but let’s get real, we totally do it)! So we compromised with white sheets and a grey duvet. I really wanted to go for something darker, like a charcoal or black, but I’ve had a (very expensive) charcoal duvet get bleached by the sun in this room so I’m not willing to brave that again. Again, I want our room to be super relaxing, so bedding is something I don’t mind spending a bit of money on. It needs to feel nice on my skin, so basically my motto is “get the best you can afford”. A throw and a couple of cushions have added texture and extra cosiness to the bed – perfect for snuggling up and watching Netflix.

BESIDE THE BED

I remember my mother spending the longest time hunting for bedside tables and never finding ones she liked, and I thought she was just being fussy. I’m so sorry mama, now I understand – finding beside tables that are the right style/colour/size/price is exceptionally difficult! We ended up settling on these four drawer cabinets (that came in a flat pack – thanks to Doug for his assembly expertise with those!) because the drawers are a great way to keep all the clutter that we seem to accumulate hidden away.

I always seem to have a lot of things on top of my bedside tables so I’m making a concerted effort to put things away in the drawers when I’ve finished using them, and only leaving out the things I need.

Be Your Own Kind Of Beautiful Print – I’d love to put more artwork in our room, but the wall behind our bed is concrete (which makes it hard to hang things) and we are planning on repainting over summer so I can’t hang anything. In the meantime I’ve borrowed this Maiko Nagao print from my office and have it on my bedside table – it’s a nice reminder to wake up to!

Bedside Lamp – Thanks to the blackout blinds I installed earlier in the year, our room is very dark at night. Having a lamp beside the bed in case I need it means I don’t have to get up and turn on the main light, plus it gives me a bit of extra light if I’m reading in bed. I picked this one up from The Warehouse and think it’s great for now, although I will probably upgrade to one that gives off a bit more light when I find one I like.

Sleepy Body Lotion – I’ve been using Sleepy before bed for almost a year now, and not only is it a great moisturiser but it’s also become an important part of my bedtime routine. Having that routine helps me fall asleep, and this cult beauty fave from Lush is full of lavender which helps as well.

Trinket Dish – I need somewhere to store my rings at night and this trinket dish from Makerie Ceramics is the perfect size for my bedside table.

Canister – Currently sitting on my side of the bed, this canister was sent to me by Kmart recently and I thought it would go well with the grey tones in our room. We’re not too sure what to put in it yet though – some people have suggested snacks, some have suggested cotton pads for removing makeup … what do you think? I’d love to know what you’d put in there!

On Doug’s side of the bed there’s not much to see – now that we have drawers he keeps most of his things tucked away. I’ve added some flowers to brighten up the room a bit – the vase is one from The Warehouse a few seasons ago, and I picked up the flowers from Flower Station, a wee florist near us that always has beautiful flowers to choose from.

I’m so pleased with how our room looks – everything feels cosy but still super fresh and crisp as we head into spring. I went for grey and white in our room because I find those really soothing neutral shades (plus I didn’t want to overwhelm Doug with anything super girly, which was basically every other option that I was looking at haha) and I know they will work all year round. I still need to get some more duvet covers, and I’d like to get patterned ones but it’s proven difficult finding ones we both liked so that might be a long range project.

HOW MUCH DID IT COST?

I set myself a budget of $1000 (excluding the bed and bedding, which were kindly gifted to us by Sleepyhead, stay tuned for a full post on what we picked out), because I knew the headboard would cost a fair bit. Two of the biggest expenses (the headboard and the bedside tables) were things I didn’t mind paying more for because I know they’re going to last a while and not be things that I want to update seasonally. I picked out most of the things for my bedroom makeover from The Warehouse, because they have great on trend pieces and I’m a big fan of their homewares – as I’m sure you will have already guessed! Some of the items (the print, vase and trinket dish) were things that I already had in other parts of my home, so I haven’t included them in my costs.

I came in well under budget at $651 thanks to being able to find that bedhead at a lower cost, and I’m really happy with how the room looks. If I wasn’t buying the headboard and bedside cabinets then my total would have come in at just over $200 – a good price for a room update and it goes to show that you don’t have to make big changes to give your room a clean fresh vibe.

I’d like matching bedside tables and some new curtains- I’m loving the soft pink and grey colours in the Warehouse right now.

  2. September 11, 2017 / 11:54 am

The warehouse has some beautiful bed frames at the moment and we desperately need on. Our mattress doesn’t fit quite right in the one we have so it would be nice to get one. They have a really lovely bed frame with fabric headboard at the moment that would bring our whole bedroom alive.

  3. September 11, 2017 / 8:42 am

I would love some new sheets and duvet cover that actually match. All my sheets have seen better days and nothing matches due to being a hodgepodge of stuff my hubby and I have acquired since we left home. It drives me mad.

I would like to make my room more functional and less cluttered. Maybe some thing to make it more calming after my 10hr shifts everyday.. I would pop my asthma medication and other meds in the little grey canister so that it would look prettier but also have a use.

    Hi Meagan!!
I’d love the $200 as my husband is in the process of Doing my nails salon and it is going to need to be glitzed and glammed for all my beautiful clients this would help me so much as I don’t work a lot due to being a busy mum to 3 under 3… but I have a good client base from home and my salon needs a revamp 💕🙏🏼

I would use the canister for my jewellery that I have earring and bits maybe hair clips because I’m terrible at forgetting to take them out before bed or you could fill it with crystals and leave the lid off it.
I would like to win the vouchers, having just had my first baby I would love to be able to buy some bits for her bed room like a new set of draws for her clothes and maybe some art work for the lounge since I’m getting so many visitor and the walls have paint samples all over them.

I’d love to makeover our bedroom – all our effort has gone into our sons room <3 and we are using super old and thin sheets and duvet covers on our own bed with pillows that need replacing! So I'd buy some new bed linen and I'd definitely hide chocolates from hubby in that grey canister hahaha

  20. Amy
    September 10, 2017 / 9:20 pm

I have decided I actually love the colour combo you have used on the bed, so I think I would try finding some bedding in those colours, although personally I’m not a fan of the jersey fabric as I apparently lack the ability to make it look nice when I make the bed haha.

I would to have nice little bedside drawers, a throw (maybe a green, blue or purple colour).. also I love photos so I’m thinking of getting like a geometric frame where I can pin them on it and add and/change them regularly! 🙂

  25. September 10, 2017 / 8:56 pm

I would love a nice head board and bed side tables. I’m like you and have(you had) random bed side tables, me and my partner have been in our flat for a bit now and it would be so nice to make it more of a modern space I want to be in more often!

The spare (Grandchildrens) bedroom was decorated 8 years ago, the Grandchildren now are aged 6 – 13 so the room definitely needs to be made more ‘mature’. I’d get new bedcovers and shelves. We love having the Grandchildren to stay and my thinking is with a nice/modern bedroom they may actually decide to stay in their room later than 7am on the weekends. The cannister would be for my dentures…hahaha..

Our bedroom – apart from a new bed – is almost done – funnily enough beside tables/drawers are what we are having trouble with too!
If I won this awesome voucher from The Warehouse I would get some art for the bedroom, and also make a start on the study/spare room. Need new shelves and some cushions for the couch, I’m sure I could make it amazing!

  53. September 10, 2017 / 7:29 pm

Ahh I LURVE what you did with your room – the perfect mix of sophistication, style and comfort! Always love seeing your style come through Meagan!
Man, where would I even start with my room? It’s a small space that definitely has not had the consideration or respect it deserves. Hubby has a Ford duvet that I’ve only just had the guts to BAN from our room, A.K.A: we are in dire need of some trendiness in our space. I’m thinking new duvet, side tables, funky pillows, nice artwork and decorative pieces… maybe in grey and rose colours? A girl can dream…

Hi Meagan my wish would be for a new duvet and inner (some bright option), some mood lighting, and new pillows. My wife Debs suffers with poor sleep and pillows are the issue, after reading you have had great success with good quailty sleepyhead pillows it could be the answer and worth a go. Thanks for the chance to win some Warehouse credit, they have some awesome new season options in at the moment.

I would love to makeover our bedroom as currently we have very little storage and don’t even have bedside tables!!!!

  64. Megan
    September 10, 2017 / 7:16 pm

Our curtains are all mouldy so that would be the first purchase-blackout of course! And maybe some new bedding… always nice to have an updated duvet cover. As for the grey canister… well we don’t want another wee surprise bubba…. so I would keep the necessities in there!

  65. September 10, 2017 / 7:15 pm

I would definitely give our bedroom a bit of a do up. We got a new bed when we married 4.5 years ago but everything else is OLD!!

  66. Jessica Christensen
    September 10, 2017 / 7:15 pm

We moved into a new house in June (it’s a 100 year old villa) and our bedroom is HUGE but so bare. We brought a new bed but I would love to get some bits and pieces to brighten our room up and make it feel like home. It’s been a rough transition for ourselves and the kids so it would be really nice to be able to start settling in and putting our touch on our new space 🙂

    September 10, 2017 / 7:13 pm

My room needs a lot of help – it’s turned into a dumping ground rather than a sanctuary. I would love to buy some more sheets and a duvet cover, and also a beautiful piece of art to be the first thing I see in the morning! Also some cute bedside lamps so I can read before I go to sleep, and most importantly I would top up my secret chocolate stash 😉

  68. Rebekah
    September 10, 2017 / 7:13 pm

I would do a layer of new paint, headboard as we don’t currently have one and I love the cushion one at the warehouse and to top it off some new curtains

  69. Christine C
    September 10, 2017 / 6:17 pm

We have finally got a headboard and now we need a new duvet, we could really do with some artwork for the walls too – they are looking very plain and uninspiring.

  70. Phil
    September 10, 2017 / 1:22 pm

I’d totally accessorise, after spending quite a lot of the killer duvet cover I wanted there wasn’t any cash monies left for little pretties! I think my partner would like if we could boy it up a bit with darker pieces as well.

  71. Michaela
    September 10, 2017 / 12:40 pm

The Warehouse is basically my spiritual home! I could do a lot with $200 there – I think some new bedding and some artwork would be a really good beginning to sprucing up my bedroom. And as for that gorgeous canister, I’d store matches in it for the candles in my room since I can never find a lighter or matches when I want to create a bit of mood lighting!!

  72. K Nepia
    September 10, 2017 / 10:45 am

Would love to win this to buy some new pillows, ours are so old and flat lol and a new duvet inner and cover would be great 🙂

New pillows are the BEST! Make sure you enter this giveaway to win some Sleepyhead pillows too hun xx

    September 10, 2017 / 10:18 am

I would love to have a real bedside table, I’m using a laptop stand as one at the moment as I can’t afford to replace it. It’s not the most practical of things, and can’t fit much on it.

  74. Louise Williams
    September 10, 2017 / 7:44 am

Oh gosh my room need so much work I don’t know where to start. We need to paint it and “mend?” all the holes in the wall from curtain rails of past and stupid husband DIY ideas. And the wardrobes. I don’t know where to start. Which is why I haven’t. New linen is always a good start. Anyway grey canister. Don’t put anything in it – leave it as a junk canister I.e. When you need to do a quick tidy throw all the randoms into it to keep things clear (hair ties, panadol, small rocks that your toddler left, etc). I have a junk drawer in the living room and it has been the best ever idea. I have to clear it out every now and then but it means the bench can always be clear.

I’d love to add some colour with a new duvet and some artwork or photo frames and blackout curtains for a better sleep would be awesome.

    September 8, 2017 / 4:41 pm

I would definitely love some new bedding. I’m a bit tied in what I can change in my rental so bedding is a beautiful way to add colour and spruce things up. Plus some nice sheets for cosiness!

    September 8, 2017 / 4:30 pm

Would love to win and get some new linen to freshen up my room for spring/summer.My room is the last to have a makeover and I’ve run out of money(typical!) I plan on painting the walls a soft white so would love some new bedding to freshen it up too.
Great job on the makeover btw.Looks fab!

    September 8, 2017 / 4:09 pm

My bedroom is definitely in need of a makeover. Some new sheets, bright Duvet Cover and cushions to represent the start of Summer would be perfect. Oh and a couple of matching lamps for the bedside drawers since one of ours broke. Thank you for this awesome opportunity <3 <3

    September 8, 2017 / 12:04 pm

Recently moving to the country from auckland, we have a very empty loft … wall art would be a must and a cute floor rug & some vases and candles with pebbles atthe bottom, a huge photoframe would be amazing 🙂

  80. Megan Scott
    September 7, 2017 / 9:55 pm

I did my bedroom over summer including great curtains from The Warehouse, but with my new colour scheme, my old art doesn’t suit the room. I’d love something bright and fresh to put up.
The canister would be a sweet treasure trove of wee love notes to each other ❤️❤️❤️

  81. Stephanie Gardner
    September 7, 2017 / 7:27 am

I’d definitely get some type of shelving and mirrors for the walls. We have a very small unit with not much storage, so every surface we have is super packed. If i got some shelves for quite high up on the walls I could decorate them nicely, then have much more room on all the existing surfaces to be much prettier.

  82. emma riley
    September 6, 2017 / 8:46 pm

I’d add some art to the wall, change the duvet. get the babys cot out of the room!

    September 6, 2017 / 12:49 pm

Over the past few years myself and my partner have through some very tough times. Our bedroom is lacking in everything we don’t enjoy it . Definitely feels like a prison not a fun place to relax and feel calm. I would love colour like in pictures and a comfy duvet something inspiring.

    September 6, 2017 / 9:59 am

As you know I am currently in the process of moving from my own home to a rental. I just bought/ordered a new Sleepyhead bed from the chiropractic range which arrives on the 14th ( three days AFTER I move, doh) The bedroom will be just mine ( and the dogs) so I will be redoing it. I actually have no idea what my vision is at this point. Having the bed is a great start lol

  85. Dimmie Danielewski
    September 6, 2017 / 9:59 am

How would you make over your bedroom?
I’d really like to update our bedroom suite. We have a 60s one I got from a secondhand place, but the headboard is attached to the side tables which have monopod legs and if you sit up in bed, the headboard tilts back and the side tables move, which has caused me to spill many cups of tea GRRRRRR So a new headboard & side tables at least, but I’d also like to update my whole suite. Also our duvet is shedding feathers EVERYWHERE so I really want to switch to wool!

And what would you store in that grey canister?
    Uh, lube, obviously. 😉

  86. Allecia
    September 5, 2017 / 9:04 pm

I would really love a new bright and colourful duvet, throw and cushions. My room is very black and white and I’d love to brighten it for the upcoming spring /summer months. I would also love a large piece of wall art. Your room looks fab!

  87. Kim Malcolm
    September 5, 2017 / 8:53 pm

I need a new duvet cover and nice pillows. When my ex and I split up, I bought cheap stuff with the thought of eventually replacing everything. It hasn’t happened. I’d love to revamp this space and turn it into something that is me, rather than what it is.

  88. Tracey
    September 5, 2017 / 8:23 pm

Can you believe the husband and I are still keeping our smalls in scruffy old drawers from our student days? He brought his into the marriage and I brought mine – we have been married 22 years! This is the year that they are going. And the old headboard ‘borrowed’ from my parents about the same time! It is a double – our bed is a queen. Honestly it’s shameful.

    • September 5, 2017 / 10:23 pm

I TOTALLY understand how that can happen – my drawers were my little brothers when he was a kid (so they’re about 30 years old) and we got Doug’s second hand from a friend who got them preloved from someone else! One day we will get a matching bedroom set. One day…

  89. September 5, 2017 / 8:06 pm

Need everything new, ive been studying for 5 years and had no money to buy anything new. Need new duvet cover and curtains and a mini bedside table with drawers. Would love a rug also 🙂

  90. Stacey Reeves
    September 5, 2017 / 7:51 pm

I recently made over my daughters room with the emerald city range from the warehouse. I did her whole room with around $200. I’d be interested to see what I can do with my room and $200! Some artwork would be a must. That grey canister is cool, Id probably keep my earphones in there, I use them a lot when binge watching Netflix series and trying not to wake hubby!

  91. Tiffiny
    September 5, 2017 / 7:21 pm

I would love some new bedding. But would probably use the voucher towards new drawers.
Treats are a must for the cannister.

  92. September 5, 2017 / 6:54 pm

What a gorgeous makeover! Love the detail in your post.

I spend more time than I’d like in bed sometimes, so luxe bedding would be the focus of a Room makeover for me. I love the new stylish and affordable bedding at the Warehouse! Thanks for the opportunity to enter this giveaway 🙂 and congrats also on the new bed, I’m super envious.

  93. Marama
    September 5, 2017 / 6:43 pm

I desperately need some sort of headboard, and a matching set of bedsides. Some art and a better storage system wouldn’t go amiss either. And who would say no to a new bed?

  94. Sian Coburn-Nicol
    September 5, 2017 / 6:42 pm

I’d love a bedroom makeover. We live in a large old farm house and we’ve currently made the original living room our bedroom as it’s closer to the fireplace (which is in the huge kitchen?!) as the master bedroom is freezing during winter. New duvet covers and bedside tables would be amazing. My bedroom is my sanctuary also so a makeover would be wonderful

  95. Hayley
    September 5, 2017 / 6:09 pm

We upgraded to a king size sleepy head head at Christmas best thing we ever did. Our room needs a good coat of paint and some blackout curtains to finish it off. Also a light coloured throw or duvet cover would brighten up the room and a valance would be complete

  96. manda
    September 5, 2017 / 6:00 pm

I would love some kinda storage for my room , it would make it so much more comfortable than it currently is.

  97. Jacqui
    September 5, 2017 / 5:46 pm

I would love some new bedding, mine is old and stained. I’d probably store beauty bits and pieces in the canister like tweezers and brushes.

  98. September 5, 2017 / 5:34 pm

New carpet! But since that’s a while off I’ll go with new curtains from The Warehouse 😊😉

  99. Kylie Dorset
    September 5, 2017 / 4:59 pm

What a fantastic giveaway! I am impressed with the style The Warehouse brings out for home decor these days, I always have a gander if I am in the store. We are moving house in a couple of weeks and this would be so perfect for us to do a bit of redecorating! Desperately need some new and funky prints in the bedroom, new duvet cover, some cool trinkets and a stand out rug I reckon!

  100. Kama Scarf
    September 5, 2017 / 4:57 pm

I would love to add some bedside tables as i am currently using my Nanas step stool as a bedside table which I love but I can use the step stool in the kitchen instead. New bedlinen would be great. I think I would store probably a mix of earrings and crystals in that canister. Such an awesome makeover looks fab

  101. Ange Dacombe
    September 5, 2017 / 4:53 pm

    Really liked your video Meagan!
My bedroom needs a make-over lol. I’ve not been able to get my bedroom looking the way I’d like it to since I got married to my husband! I’d love a headboard (we don’t have one) and the bedside cabinets you have look super stylish. I’ve just gotten a Quilt for our bed which I love, but the one thing I’d love more of is space. Our room is so cluttered!

  102. Sharon Kennerley
    September 5, 2017 / 4:50 pm

As much as I’d like to spend $200 on my own bedroom I would actually like to spend it on my eldest daughter who is expecting her second child and whom I’m sure has never bought anything new or matching for herself – her bedroom is just a messy mismatched nightmare.

  103. Jamie Q

  104. Robyn Visser

  107. Ruth
    September 5, 2017 / 4:04 pm

I would love to win this, we have a fairly plain room, it needs a massive revamp. Some wall art wouldn’t go astray, a new colourful duvet set (or two haha) and update the curtains!! Thanks for considering me Megan. 😀

  108. Bex
    September 5, 2017 / 3:59 pm

Hubby and I have just moved to Wellington from chch so I would use the voucher for a whole new look for our bedroom for when we eventually get into our new place. New linen would def be first in this list!

  109. rachael warren
    September 5, 2017 / 3:44 pm

  111. Suzannah
    September 5, 2017 / 3:37 pm

We have a rather compact master bedroom and the bed we inherited from my parents is way too bulky for the space. We’d love a new bed (and a swish mattress to help me sleep after my recent kidney transplant) And is love to get a new chest of drawers. New bedding, a gorgeous throw and some photo frames would be lovely for decorating!

  112. Amy G
    September 5, 2017 / 3:36 pm

Oooohhh I need a room update. We have just moved into our new place in the middle of the bush but all my bedroom decor suits my old white with polished floors with big windows bedroom at the other house. Would love to get some new stuff that will brighten our room as its a bit darker due to the lovely but big kauris outside our window! Would love to repaint as well but thats going to be a summer job!

  113. Tabitha newton
    September 5, 2017 / 3:25 pm

I would love to renovate our bedroom- it’s a sunny bright room with a gorgeous view but is as bare as old mother Hubbard’s cupboard- I would love to celebrate the greenery theme that’s popular with a big palm, lots of beautiful ferns, and an amazing monsters palm print! Green velvet cushions on a crisp white quilt with a cane headboard would complete the picture perfect bedroom!

    • September 5, 2017 / 3:26 pm

OMG that sounds so lush 😍

  114. Paige
    September 5, 2017 / 3:22 pm

  115. Stacey Mackinnon

  118. Kylie Scott
    September 5, 2017 / 6:49 am

I’d love a room maker over its do plain with just a bed (with very old linen!) and a set of drawers. I’d love some art or nice wee nick nacks. The kids always get nice rooms so it would be lovely to have our own space. I’d hide all my black hairties in that grey canister so the kids don’t steal them and leave me wandering around with their sparkly neon ones 🙂

  119. SOPHIE ADDISON
    September 5, 2017 / 1:55 am

I would love to replace my stained and ripped curtains please. It would be nice if they are all matching too. Thanks for the lucky chance 🙂 x

  120. Gemma
    September 4, 2017 / 11:37 pm

I dont have a bedroom. We had to downsize to a tiny upstairs flat. My bed is in the lounge so my children could keep their things and have their own rooms. So I would split the voucher and give them half each to add some more style to their rather plain rooms. Im sure they could both find something awesome 🙂

    • Kylie Kaihe
      September 5, 2017 / 9:54 am

Well… I was going to enter until I read this! What a selfless beautiful mother you are Gemma. I hope you win <3

    September 4, 2017 / 10:35 pm

Absolutely love your choice of decor!!
I’d love new curtains for my bedroom and a beautiful vase filled with fresh spring flowers. The grey canister would be the perfect spot to hide some treats from the kids! I’d be so grateful to win this amazing prize. 🦋

  122. KrystleF
    September 4, 2017 / 10:33 pm

Oh your room looks so comfy & peaceful! I’m obsessed with grey at the moment. I would love to get new bedding, a print & lamp for my room.

    • September 4, 2017 / 11:09 pm

Thanks Krystle! I find the grey so relaxing after spending so long on the computer 🙂

  123. Marlene
    September 4, 2017 / 10:13 pm

Wow! My bedroom is in need of new drapes! Just above our bed, I have little aluminium windows with very boring floral, out of date, a little mould spot, drapes. They’re so tatty looking. And my other Blue drapes that go with my bedside lamps are so thin now. Well you see….I didn’t read the washing instructions properly! Now they’re all patchy and no backing on them..I did this over a year ago!
Thanks so much for this chance Meagan x

    • Marlene
      September 4, 2017 / 10:16 pm

AND….I would put all my hair accessories in that grey container.

    • September 5, 2017 / 7:00 pm

Ooooooh this would be amazing…. I would love new bedding including a valance. A lovely soft plush throw would complete it.good luck everyone and thank you xx

I love the colors of your room! Looks so inviting.
My room is plain and boring would love to add some colour and a new duvet, also storage for clothing.
I would probably put lollies or chocolate in the container lol for my all hours sugar hit while feeding my third child lol.

  125. Lauren

My room needs side tables and some art work

  126. Tina Lyford
    September 4, 2017 / 9:35 pm

I’d some some new funky retro art from my room. French doors out to a deck with a spa pool would be amazing but don’t have the budget for that 😂. I’d put a mirror and tweezers in the grey cannister. Always having to do my eyebrows.

  127. Jo
    September 4, 2017 / 8:40 pm

My room needs some bright new art work and curtains. Id keep lip balms, panadol and hair ties in the grey canister 🙂

  128. Kylie Thompson
    September 3, 2017 / 8:19 am

I would love to make my room more of a sanctuary. To start with I would get some sheer curtains to bring a romantic feel to the room. I need to up date our bedding and move away from my current grey on grey.
Would also love to bring some colour into our room with accessories.

  129. September 3, 2017 / 6:36 am

We need a new bed! But thats for another day this has been a great post for me. Funny how we always do everyone elses needs first yet we sleep on tired old sheets and have no bed side tables.. haha. I would love some new curtains with no tears in them. Some bedside tables. And i would put my fitbit charger in the grey container so its not on the floor.

  130. Vanessa gurry
    September 2, 2017 / 8:46 pm

I would looovvvee new bedding, we’ve been using the same duvet cover for 3 years! In the
Grey canister I would store mints, you know, for the morning 😉

    September 2, 2017 / 6:41 pm

  132. September 2, 2017 / 2:41 am

I absolutely love the makeover of your bedroom! It’s amazing how much small things can change 🙂 I would love to re-do my bedroom. I defs need a nightstand as I don’t have one at the moment… New bedding would be great as well as I left all my favorite sheets in Germany when I moved over here. Eek, I absolutely loved this post 🙂

    • September 2, 2017 / 3:54 pm

Glad to hear you loved it Julia! ❤️

    September 2, 2017 / 1:57 am

I love the grey duvet! The first duvet I ever bought was silvery grey and it’s not an exaggeration to say I spent an hour picking it out.

    • Imogen

Also if I got to revamp my room it would be new lamps and a blush coloured blanket #interiorgoals

  134. Michelle
    September 1, 2017 / 9:38 pm

Looks great!! Love the colour scheme! The headboard gives it a cosy and luxurious look. The canister is so cool. I’d put medication, vitamins, lipbalm, cuticle oil, just bits and pieces.
Looking forward to your blog about the bed buying process. We are in desperate need of a new bed and I know it will make a difference to our sleep! Now just to save up haha!

    • September 2, 2017 / 7:39 am

That’s basically what my nightstand is filled with 😂

    September 1, 2017 / 9:12 pm

I desperately need a new Doona (I think they are called duvet’s here in NZ?) and a cover. At the moment we just have the doona and no cover and it’s pretty old now so a bit stained. Yerrrk..

  136. Megan
    September 1, 2017 / 8:17 pm

I would love to makeover my whole room. When I moved back to my parents house after finishing uni they had so many plans to re-do my room and make it feel like my room but that’s never happened. I think the first thing I would love to change are my bedside cabinets. They are scratched up, discoloured and just look down right sad. I love the crisp minimal look but my room just looks far from that and it’s depressing to be in here.
I would love to have a canister like that where I could put a nice scented candle in and have it beside my bed so that I could light it and make my evenings more relaxing.

  137. September 1, 2017 / 5:43 pm

I’d love some new bedding for my bed! Something that reflects who I am now rather than me 10 years ago.

  138. Stacey Turner
    September 1, 2017 / 5:25 pm

I’d love to add some colour to our room, it’s pretty bare maybe a nice mat and some art on the wall. We have grey walls and dark carpet so we need a dash of colour. P.’s I love your headboard that’s something we also need

  139. Helen
    September 1, 2017 / 3:26 pm

I’d like to get new bedside tables as mine are past their best. Also I managed to break a bed side lamp so would like to get a new set of matching ones.

  140. Tash
    September 1, 2017 / 3:06 pm

We desperately need new sheets for our bed. Every single set has at least one hole (generally multiple) in at least one of the sheets 😳 even our ol’ faithful pair (most expensive set we had been given as a wedding gift) have finally given up and gone holey too! So they’re number one on the list. Plus a colourful accessory or two wouldn’t go amiss in cheering the room up 😊

I would LOVE to get new bedside tables. Mine have flaking paint and are so old. Black out curtains would be a dream! I study full time and work part time so sleep is precious 🙂

I’d love to get new curtains, a new lamp, and some storage containers for all my make up and nail polish and hair products and all of the things us women need!
I’d love to be able to have them accessible but stored away nicely at the same time

How awesome that you came in under budget and yay for sleepyhead giving you the hook up! I love that!

I’d love to win the voucher as I too want to work on my room. I’m just starting to spend more time in it (my youngest is coming us 2 and a half) and I’d like to make it a calm nice spot in the house for me. Kid free haven!

Canister? If birth control hideaway isn’t required maybe adult fun time things in there or a junk holder for hair ties bobby pins nail file etc.

My bedroom has been gutted for over a year (no gib etc) and we are finally about to start it! I can’t wait to make it cozy and modern and have it as my sanctuary especially being a mum. Loving greys etc

Love how you styled your flowers! We def need decent lamps and a new duvet, I’ve seen something with blues and greys that’s on my wish list. No cushions on the bed currently, but I like the ones you have chosen. Nicer longer curtains would change the look of our room too, oh cripes…..now that I’ve started I can’t stop….

  147. August 31, 2017 / 9:32 pm

I’m about to recover my headboard (that I originally bought off trademe as a dreadful ’80s floral, then recovered in fake black snakeskin) in barbie pink vinyl, so I’m going to need some new pillows to go with it. I could definitely use some bedside drawers as well cos i’ve got so much junk that open shelves just don’t cut it.

And obviously, the canister is for birth control.

    • August 31, 2017 / 9:40 pm

I use birth control pills and the packets are a bit of an awkward shape to fit in the canister. If I used condoms that would totally work though!

  148. August 31, 2017 / 8:55 pm

I am so keen to add a headboard to our bed, I feel like it would really tie the room together a lot more! Love the way you have styled your room! x

We really need some new bedside tables! Ours are mismatched and mine is falling apart lol

Your canister needs lollies in it 😛

    • August 31, 2017 / 9:39 pm

I suspect lollies are going to be what ends up in it!

My clothes live in a couple of those plastic flexi tubs in the corner of the room, so drawers of some type would be high on my priority list!! I love the look of the lamp you have, I work shifts so it would be a great idea for my side of the bed so I don’t disturb my husband. I’d also like to buy a variety of frames and print out pics of the kids to have in our room, maybe with a mix of their artwork. We just got new sheets from the Warehouse and they’re cozy, so regarding the bed I would love so much to have a headboard. I always thought it would be too much, but what you spent sounds really reasonable!

Definitely need some art prints for our room and maybe a nice throw to hide mount foldmore! As for the canister…. Condoms! 😂😂😂

    • August 31, 2017 / 9:38 pm

I use birth control pills so condoms aren’t much use to me, but that would have been a great idea!

I would love to make over my bedroom by starting with a lovely headboard, a soft throw and some white wooden slat blinds.
There is only one thing to keep in the canister! Chocolate 🍫🍫🍫

    • August 31, 2017 / 7:36 pm

Chocolate sounds like a tasty treat to keep in that canister!

Looks awesome! Love your headboard 🙂 I just bought myself a padded headboard from Mocka (I’ve been wanting a headboard for about 7 years!). But would still love to get some new bedding and artwork for my room to help it feel more ‘grown up’ now i’m no longer a uni student!

I love the colour scheme, grey and white is simple and classy. I just watched your vid showing your new bedroom and realised how tired and uninspiring my bedroom is! Totally in need of a headboard rather than a cold wall, and desperado for some new bed linen! Also new bedside tables, and a new lamp…and well…all of it really 😀

    • August 31, 2017 / 6:48 pm

It’s made such a difference hasn’t it? I’m glad I took that before video so we could see the changes!

  156. August 31, 2017 / 6:43 pm

Wow it looks amazing Megan. Such a fresh but cozy look. I’m currently looking at padded headboards as well but can’t choose what shape I want. I’ve always thought plain coloured duvet covers would look boring but this look shows with a bit of accessorizing they can look awesome. Great stuff, thanks for sharing

I would love some draws for my room first and foremost. Our room consists of things we have been given is very bitsy, I am planning on eventually getting some nice things for it but I need some draws because my clothes live on my sewing machine box.

I’m buying my first home and would love some new bedding to go with it – duvet cover, throw pillows and blanket, matching lamps, and the room could do with some new curtains.

I love those flowers!!! Your bedroom is adorable now – I am just a little jealous……..we don’t have much in it that matches, finally nailed getting a mattress that doens’t have my partner constantly winging about sore back! thankfully, but do not walk into my bedroom and feel relaxed! I have mismatched all over the place, the curtains are the most ugliest colour, and then my duvet cover together makes one stand out, it’s like mismatch from the 80s and looks terrible, i love what you have done, and the fact you have said blockout curtains, thats something i would love, have street lights into our bedroom! and its’ a nightmare trying to get sleep anytime its shining through, when my partner is way i freak myself out and think i can see people peeping on me, as our current curtains show all kinds of shadows on the wall!! <3 (if that makes sense) love a voucher too girly my bedroom!! xx

You have no idea how much I need a room makeover. I’m about to turn 40 and only just recently bought our own him before that I was living in farming houses that were never mine. The last time I could pick something for my room I was about seven and it was yellow floral wallpaper! I really want to create the bedroom I’ve always wanted! Unfortunately we also have a rather large mortgage which makes it hard!

I would love to win this to give my step daughters room a makeover! She’ll be 11 in a couple of months and really wants a “more grown up” room so I would be thrilled to makeover her room with her together! Shes such a beautiful and bubbly young thing and she’s really kicked butt at school this year so thoroughly deserves a treat! Thanks so much for the opportunity to win xx

I would so love some new curtains, so that each window in the bedroom matched and didn’t have rips in from the catcwgen he was a kitten. If there was any money left I would love some new pillows that are soft and fluffy.

    • August 31, 2017 / 6:34 pm

Speaking of new pillows, you will definitely want to keep an eye out for my next post about choosing my bed 😉

I think firstly get new sheets and a new cover for the bed. We’re currently using hot pink winter weight sheets and it’s way too warm for them now. I’d love to also get a new beside table for when baby (and the massive cot) move into his own room.

I have just moved house and now have space for a bigger desk to fit my ‘office space’, which is really just a corner in my room. So I would love some items to brighten up the space on my desk and wall as well as new curtains! It is amazing how a little makeover can make us feel. Loving your rooms vibes, very fresh.

i would love to add black out curtains or blinds to my room. I am so sick of my ill fitting and faded current ones. I love your padded headboard, I am off to stalk that now.

    • August 31, 2017 / 3:33 pm

Blackout curtains have honestly made SUCH a difference, we have a street lamp across from us that shines in like a stadium light so I’m loving it now that it’s actually dark. It helps keep the warmth in over winter too, which is lovely!
