About 18 months ago I had the opportunity to take part in The Adipositivity Project – a photography project by the illustrious Substantia Jones that celebrates fat bodies in all their glory. Fat, glorious and without clothes on.
One of the reasons I write this blog is because I think it’s really important to have positive representation of bodies of all shapes and sizes out there in the world. Not just the so-called ideals represented in the media or in carefully curated Instagram feeds, but other bodies that are seldom seen. I’m short and fat with rolls, stretch marks and cellulite; I have large breasts that sag, very fat legs and an apron belly. I have scars, imperfect skin and most of the time my hair is frizzy. In the fashion world, bodies like mine are rarely shown, and so I decided to put myself out there and be one of the people providing that much needed representation of fat bodies. Put your money where your mouth is and all that, right? View Post
I’m obsessed with all thing lavender, from the oils and moisturisers I use to help me sleep, to the plants growing in the garden outside my bedroom, to lavender syrup on pancakes. After seeing a post from my friend Miss Charlotte Cake saying that she was visiting Lavender Hill Farm in Coatesville, I knew I had to pay them a visit before the lavender was harvested. We were just in time, visiting the day before picking! It was positively dreamy – there were rows and rows of lavender just waiting to be harvested, all abuzz with bees and bumblebees and butterflies. There were olive groves and lemon trees and alpacas, with frosty limoncello just waiting to be tasted (just a heads up, if you’re a non-drinker like me, limoncello is strong AF). View Post
Instagram is the first place I go to when I’m looking for style inspiration. I’m a visual person, so being able to see what other people are wearing and how they’ve styled it, discover new brands and trends, and to have so many stylish people within the push of a button is great. It helps me to push my style boundaries and gives me some fabulous ideas on how I can mix up my wardrobe when I think I have nothing to wear – I save posts all the time (use the little bookmark button at the bottom right of a post and you can even file things into folders so you can find them easily). You might have noticed that I’ve been a bit quieter over the last year. Having my operation in April really knocked me for six – recovery was harder than I had expected it to be, I didn’t feel like writing or being in front of the camera, and more often than not my outfits consisted of gym gear or pyjamas (the two most comfortable clothing options, I think!). And while my blog ticked along quietly, I haven’t really been here. At least, not in the way I’d like to be. View Post
A massive thank you to everyone who has read my blog posts, shared them with their friends, subscribed, found me on social media and joined the conversation about plus size style, self love and other awesome things. It’s been really great talking to you, seeing your pictures and hearing what you think about everything from fashion to what makes you feel great!
One of my fave ways to celebrate the holidays is teaming up with some of my blog partners that I work with throughout the year to share some of my favourite things with you. As you know blogging is my full time gig, and without the ongoing support of my amazing blog partners that sponsor my posts and give me a chance to share the things I love with you, I wouldn’t be able to do this for a job. So, big thanks to them, and big thanks to you for supporting me and supporting the people who support me! Anyway, enough of my mushiness, on to our lucky winners… View Post
