Ankle boots for autumn

Autumn 2016 ankle boots for wide feet

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of ankle boots – I pretty much wear them from the beginning of autumn to the end of spring … and sometimes I wear them in summer as well. I’ve got a few requirements – they need to be flat, they need to be comfortable, and they need to fit my chunky ankles. My feet aren’t super wide but they are flat so I prefer the wider fit ones for comfort and so I can get my orthotic inserts in there (not very stylish but they are super comfortable!). I want need some new boots so I thought I’d share a few that I’ve found and am loving in case you’re shopping for some as well.

Every year I find myself trying a lot of zipped boots on but I’m yet to find a pair in a style I like that fits well, so I was super stoked to find these ones. The top right and bottom left ones are both from ASOS and are in a wide fit (woohoo!) and the other two are from Ziera. What I love about both of those Ziera boots is that they have removable ¾ inlays which makes them orthotic-friendly (and I’m getting new orthotic inserts made at the moment, so it’s something I want to consider) without being super clunky.

I’m waiting on knee surgery, so I’m trying to think ahead about what will be easy to get on and off while I’m recuperating. Ankle boots that you can just pull on are ideal (bonus points if you use a shoe horn with them because that means bending down is minimal – great for people who find that difficult) plus they tend to have a bit more give around the ankle. My mom got the Mavis ankle boots (bottom right) from Number One Shoes last year (thanks to all of you who voted and helped her choose!) and I’m still pretty envious of them. I’m about 99% sure that I’m going to get pull on boots purely for that ease of putting them on.

Up until this point, lace up ankle boots have been my go to (I’ve got the bottom right ones from Number One Shoes and wear them all the time). Lace up boots are great because it doesn’t matter too much if you’ve got bigger ankles because you can just lace them as tight or as loose as you like. The only problem with lace up boots is that sometimes the thinner round laces don’t always last a long time (or if they have the waxy coating they don’t stay done up very well) – I highly recommend buying some flat laces or thicker rounded ones that don’t have coating to save that frustration!

Do you wear ankle boots like me?
Let me know which pair you like best, I need some help choosing!

I love me some ankle boots! I have big calves and am only 5’3, so if I wear anything higher- it doesn’t look so good! But I love the Asos and new look boots in the first quad! I’m still looking for a good pair of lace up ones!

I desperately need to buy a new pair of flat black boots for work! I am on my feet most of the day so I need them to be super comfy! I am currently murdering a pair of Ecco boots I’ve had for years that are scuffed and unattractive but don’t hurt my feet at all! I see a lot of options in your post that could work for me – so yay Thanks Meagan! 🙂

Meagan this post speaks to my very soul. As I mentioned, those Wittner Margot buckle ups are definitely going to make it into my wardrobe 🙂
