Fat Girls Shouldn't Wear Stripes: Allie Bee

Hey, my name is Allie Bee. I wanted to take part in this project to prove to myself that I can be comfortable in my own skin and in the hope that it would inspire other people to be happy with the way they look and embrace it the same way as the girls and I did at the photo shoot. I was nervous but I am glad I did it and I had so much fun!

When I was younger I was often teased for my height and weight. I was always the bigger girl in the class and through being teased by other kids at a young age I became very insecure about the way I looked. As I’ve grown I have developed quite a thick skin (no pun intended) and I am slowly but surely accepting that fat and fabulous is just what I am! It takes a lot to knock me these days.

I’m sure Allie’s story is familiar to a few of you, right? Things that happen to us when we are young (like bullying) can be really damaging to us as we grow up.  If you have been told something enough, your brain starts believing it is true – especially negative things. Seeing a therapist really helped me to work through the messages I’d received all my life about my appearance, my worth, my identity and just all of the crap that seemed to filtering through my conciousness and making its way in to my thought processes.

Another thing that helped me was actively thinking positive things. Try writing down one positive thing about yourself each day on a piece of paper, and putting it in a jar. When you’re feeling down on yourself (and yeah, I’ll admit that does happen to me sometimes, even now!), pull out the pieces of paper and read all of the great things about yourself! What a great way to boost your mood!

Let’s start now. Leave me a comment on this post with one positive thing about yourself.  It could be something you love about your body, something you’ve achieved recently, or even something you’re really good at. I’ll start, with something inspired by a couple of recent occurrences in my life … I’m really awesome at coping under pressure.

Tell me one positive thing about yourself in the comments below!

Also, can I just say how much I love Allie’s bathing suit? So stylish!
