12 Christmas sweaters that don’t suck

I live in New Zealand and in case you didn’t know, here in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s summer when we celebrate Christmas so we miss out on all manner of wintery goodness over the festive season. One of the things that I’m always sad about is that I don’t get to experience the good, the bad and the ugly Christmas sweaters! So today I’m living vicariously through my Northern Hemisphere readers and I’ve found 12 plus size Christmas sweaters that don’t suck…

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - Boohoo Plus Ivy Filthy Animal Xmas Jumper

Nothing brings back childhood Christmas memories quite like Home Alone – one of my fave movies growing up (please tell me I’m not alone on this one?) and still has me in stitches 24 years later! This sweater is the perfect fitting tribute… Available in sizes 16-24.

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - Modcloth Up to Scratch Sweater

The crazy cat lady in me thinks that all occasions should include cats – especially Christmas. I love how grouchy this cat looks! With the cut out shoulders, I reckon we could totally get away with this in the Southern Hemisphere too, as it’s still a little chilly… Available in US sizes 0-22 (NZ/AU 4-26).

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - Yours Clothing Black And Cream Fairisle Intarsia Eyelash Tunic

The longer length of this sweater combined with the cosy knit fabric just makes me want to snuggle up by the fire with a hot cocoa. As far as Christmas jumpers go, I think that ones like this that can be worn during the Southern Hemisphere winter (which is June – August, definitely not Christmas!) are the best. Available in sizes 16-28.

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - ASOS CURVE Christmas Jumper With Snowman Elbow Patch

Want something super subtle? How about a knit sweater with super cute snowman elbow patches! This is quite a fine cotton knit, so I think it could definitely work for our summer weather (that feels a lot more like spring). Available in sizes 18-28.

SHOP IT: ASOS CURVE Christmas Jumper With Snowman Elbow Patch, AUD $43.00 from ASOS

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - Boohoo Plus Belle Santa Xmas Jumper

Now this is a Christmas jumper! Santa, snowflakes, reindeer, holly … what more could you want? Available in sizes 16-22.

SHOP IT: Boohoo Plus Belle Santa Xmas Jumper, $25.00 from boohoo.com

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - Evans Purple Christmas Poncho

If you’re not feeling the Christmas jerseys, then how about a poncho instead? This one comes in navy or purple, and has a hood and a snowflake motif! Available in sizes 14-32.

SHOP IT: Purple Christmas Poncho, £38.00 from Evans

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - Old Navy Women's Plus Fair Isle Sweaters

When I think of Christmas sweaters, the Fair Isle patterned ones (Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colours) are always the first to spring to mind. I’m pretty sure it’s mandatory for everyone to wear a Fair Isle jumper at least once in their lives (at least, it should be!). Available in US sizes 16-30 (NZ/AU 20-34).

SHOP IT: Black Reindeer Fair Isle Sweater, USD $34.00 from Old Navy

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - Evans Grey Penguin Jumper

Jumpers that feature cute winter characters are also in abundance at the moment – from polar bears to snowmen. I found this adorable penguin sweater and had to include it just for the sheer cuteness factor (you can also get a red sweater with the penguin wearing a scarf and hat – adorbs!). Available in sizes 14-32.

SHOP IT: Grey Penguin Jumper, £35.00 from Evans

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - Yours Clothing Black Intarsia Snowflake Pattern Christmas Knitted Tunic

Intarsia is another knitting technique, with results similar to the Fair Isle technique. I’m not going to go in to how they differ, because I honestly have no idea about knitting at all – let’s just say that this looks pretty cool and leave it at that, okay? I really like this tunic, because unlike a lot of Christmas sweaters it’s not too busy pattern-wise. A bit of pretty detail on the shoulders and at the hem is just perfect. Available in sizes 16-32.

SHOP IT: Black Intarsia Snowflake Pattern Christmas Knitted Tunic, USD $52.00 from Yours Clothing

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - ASOS CURVE Exclusive Cardigan With Christmas Fairisle

A slightly different take on your traditional Christmas sweater (and probably more suited to summer Christmases in New Zealand) is the Christmas cardigan. We often have wet rain weather over summer, and sometimes it can get a bit chilly, so this would be great to be able to thrown on over a dress. Available in sizes 18-28.

SHOP IT: ASOS CURVE Exclusive Cardigan With Christmas Fairisle, AUD $62.00 from ASOS

Plus size Christmas sweaters that don't suck - Boohoo Plus Isobel Reindeer Xmas Jumper

Reindeer kisses and snowflakes? Yes please! I love this pattern, it’s too cute! Available in sizes 16-20.

SHOP IT: Boohoo Plus Isobel Reindeer Xmas Jumper, $30.00 from boohoo.com

I kinda wish Christmas jumpers were more of a ‘thing’ here because these ones are so cute! PS-I have never seen Home Alone. Yep…

I know, right? We’ll just have to get the lightweight ones! I’m not surprised you haven’t seen Home Alone – it came out in 1990 so a bit before your time! You should totally put it on your “to watch” list!
